Anyone have a label scan to post here, and also can give us any information about Chicago's Invictus Records.  I know that they were in operation at least in 1965 and 1966, and Jazz musician, Ted Ashford, was Champion's producer.  I'd like to know who owned the label, its producers, arrangers, songwriters, other artists and releases, recording studios and pressing plants used.  I don't remember hearing Champion's "Don't Panic Baby"/"Yes" or "Boogaloo News" played on WVON (or any other radio station).

According to Davie Gordon (on a 2006 SDF thread), - The label was run by J B Kargman, The Blackstones' manager who went on to become the manager of Baby Huey and The Babysitters.  And, their records were recorded (and pressed?) at Stereo Sonic Studios (main studio used by USA Records).  There was a 3rd release on Chicago's Invictus Records, by Champion, which was a Xmas record.  A 4th release was a "Garage Band" record by The Blackstones.

Bump up.  At least the DJ who uploaded this song onto You-Tube should be able to post a label scan and provide some label information, and possibly answers to some of my questions.

Here you go Robb, got both copies separately back when but didn't know how obscure it was until saw a thread several years back on the Soulful Detroit forum, always sounds great out, hope scan is useful, ATB.

Thanks.

The New Blues was Ted Ashford's band, rather than a background vocal group.

I wish I could read those label credits, but they're too blurry. It looks like Larry levy (?) produced  "Boogaloo News".  I don't want to buy "Boogaloo News", as I don't like the sound of either side.  I DO like "Don't Panic Baby", a LOT.

It turns out that I had Invictus 1000, "I Stand Accused"/"Boogaloo News" all along. I bought it in 1967 or so in Chicago.  Yes, the producer was Larry Levy.  And I remember having found and played Champion's XMas song at that same shop, but not liking it enough to pay the $1.00 for it, and so passing it up.  I don't remember seeing "Don't Panic Baby".  So, I don't have to feel like I missed out on a really valuable record I could have traded today for a slew of rare Detroit records!  😜1499892992_ScreenShot2021-08-17at4_39_25PM.png.8348e68a7a2583f5cd2e99cf4f9cb21f.png

Fantastic record and superb work Rob and this tune has a few lovely breaks in places (reminiscing of "These Boots Are Made For Walking"
