Looks like 'All I Do Is Think About You — Tammi Terrell' will be hammered at soul nights from now!!  :D   First proper release on vinyl I think?   Am I right in saying that its a first legal vinyl release for 'Stormy - Supremes',  Suspicion - Originals', Forever in my heart -Temps, and the Kim Weston version of 'You hit me' as well?    Only available as boots before?   Hopefully someone on here with far more knowledge than me can correct me if I've got all that wrong!

Just trying to work out which ones have had a LEGAL vinyl release already and which haven't.   Pretty sure The Spinners, David Ruffin, Barbara McNair and Isleys tracks have appeared on LP's before.   Not sure about  Chris Clark - 'Somethings wrong'?

Just had my first listen to the Stevie Wonder - 'Just Enough To Ease The Pain'. quite liked it.    Got to say, all in all it looks like a decent xmas pressie (hopefully!).   Not bad value either considering its 7 45's.

that's providing of course, you've got your order in pronto....THIS WILL SELL OUT AND AS FAR AS THE LITERATURE IS CONCERNED, IT WON'T BE RE-BOOTED, 2200 ONLY...WITH WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTION....the already mooted vol.2 is looking very interesting....but i'll say no more!

I see there's a new box set of Motown sevens coming up. Any idea which songs are included? I've done a search but no luck...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Motown-7s-Box-Set/dp/B00FGGTK5Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383743306&sr=8-1&keywords=motown+box+set

Got my order in, looks good. I'd prefer to have put it on a wish list but worried they'll sell out!

Good thread thanks.

A birthday present from my nephew and his girlfriend late summer was a pair of cuff links crafted out of vinyl Motown. They're pretty oversized for cuff links, and I hope the singles they came from were damaged or naff, but if you fancy a look:

My box has arrived (via Amazon). I put in a pre-order some time ago and my box is #1162 of 2000.

As lots of other retail outlets have pre-ordered this box set, I would bet that 75%+ of them have already left the Universal-Island warehouse.

My guess is every one will have gone by Xmas, so don't delay if you want a box for yourself.

My box set arrived today opened it only to find the Marvin Gaye single missing but with two Barbara McNair's instead, been on the phone and a replacement set on the way, gonna make sure I open it up whilst the courier is there just in case :0).

My set was going to remain unopened until Christmas, but given that a couple of you have had duplicates/missing records I decided to open it. Thankfully all items are present and correct.

It's nice to be able to download mp3 copies too, but more importantly, the quality of the vinyl is excellent - thick and firm - it feels good in the hand :D

Very pleased with it.

in case i've been misunderstood, the david ruffin track appeared on a CD, courtesy of hip-oselect, a u.s. release only at one time deleted but due to demand a second run was  instituted....still available and for anyone that dosn't have it...YOU SHOULD!, IT'S A BRILLIANT CD!! and as regards the four tops track, this also appeared on a hipo dbl cd comp of 48 previously unissued tracks......though it was not at  my behest, richard included it off the back of the copy i sent him some 6 years ago...that's how long it's been known, now thankfully available as a well deserved vinyl release.

Got home and played them all through. Excellent sound, feel and presentation. The correct singles were in the box, and were even in the same order as their write-ups on the sleeve notes. Thanks to everyone who posted about this set being released, very happy with mine!

Some years back(2002) I bought a set of 5 boxed singles in New York, at Restoration Hardware, called "Motown & More". Weirdly, along with Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell ('Ain't nothing like the real thing' and 'Give a little love'); The Spinners ('It's a shame' and 'Together we can make such sweet music'); Diana Ross and The Supremes ('You keep me hangin' on' and Remove this doubt'); and The Temptations ('My girl' and '(Talking 'bout) Nobody but my baby'), the 5th single is James Brown!

Get it opened, get it played, enjoy it, it's wonderful.

Wiil do Mark, nice to hear from you, believe you are  not in Ashton any more mate.

this is the dilemma, isn't it?.......DO YOU OPEN IT OR NOT?.....the "fors" will say, of course you do, you've just spent 40 odd pounds on it, it's there to be played and enjoyed...RIGHT!...the "againsts" will say once you take the cellophane wrap off....devalued, once played...devalued...IT IS INSTANTLY A COLLECTORS ITEM SIMPLY BECAUSE THERE ARE BUT 2200 COPIES and it won't get a second run " due to demand". of course, we can see an opt out in the use of a download....BUT IT'S STILL NOT THE VINYL IS IT?.....decisions, decisions!!....( sigh ) should have bought 3 COPIES, one to open  & play, one to keep for the sake of having it, and one to sell later on when its value has zonked!!...but i didn't, so TOUGH!! :(   :dash2:   :hypo:

it's ironic, but even richard, who put this thing together, has a copy himself,.......and HE CAN'T BRING HIMSELF TO OPEN IT!!

I keep 3 copies of everything I ever release. One is opened so I can check quality control and generally admire the finished product and the other two are kept sealed and kept as back up. What always happens is that I inevitably give away one or two of the sealed copies and have to live with the one I opened in the first place......

This is a brilliant box set by the way. Good on Richard for doing it. I wish him every success.

ian, as i've already hinted, the next one is already under way and knowing the man as we do, it should be equally as good but i certainly wouldn't expect to see that on the horizon much before june of next year...universal will want to witness the response to this release...let's face facts...they would have to be completely dumb if they didn't think it would walk off the shelves!...and with the guidance & research involving "the oracle" harry weinger, they must know it's gonna prove to be something of a unique and justifiable sales pitch. can't worship the four tops track enough, just one of the best crossover tunes EVER! ( can you imagine if motown had added a string section to it? )

Actually, Richard has the expertise to do a release like this properly and if 2,200 have been manufactured then I'd say that's a great result for all concerned. As powerful as Universal are, they're not as concerned about limited appeal deep catalogue releases because it's not really worth their while, so it really makes more business sense to farm out the specialist releases to the right parties and in this case they got it 100% correct. I'd rather Richard was doing this stuff than anyone else. Makes all the sense in the world in my view.

Mine is a Xmas present, but after reading about the duplicated/missing singles, I was allowed to open it and check it.

Everything ok as it happens, very relieved. Gutted I have had to hand it back for 5 weeks though!

Has anyone dared peel that black label off the front? Spoils it.

I played chris clark on opening the box..... You know the feeling of solice and peace? Well i felt that earlier, when i put the needle on the vinyl and there was absolutely NO pops, crackle, hisses or any other noise whatsoever! Pure musical delight

Reading some of the above posts I think it's got to be opened.

I would open it, if you slit the wrapper carefully with a sharp knife along one edge it can be slipped back on and it will look almost as good as it did before you opened it.

Better to be sure now than to go on wondering for weeks on end...

Just received 2 sets today - one set is all correct with the seven different records, but the other set has Marvin Gaye missing and 2 x B McNair.

Is it possible to send just the one pack back to Amazon, or do I have to send both packs back and hope the replacements are both correct.?

Cheers

Mick
