Codfromderby
back in the late 70,s the salvadors was booted on a blue label, i think everyone knows what the boots look like, however a couple of years ago someone had a blue label copy on vinyl i think "guaranteed original" for sale although pretty knackered it went for quite a lot. going back to the late 70,s i had a "greenish" vinyl copy of the salvadors , i always presumed these were boots as well cause i had a being without you maurice williams on the same coloured label, the salvadors i had looks very much the same as the copy currently for sale, can anyone explain, Link to comment Social source share
Jim G
Also, Kev Roberts stated inthe top 500 book , that after the intial batch were found, no others turned up. Anyone got the full story on this? Also as a footnote, I danced to this on the CasinoStage in one the famous dancing competitions, I was knackered at the end! Ted Massey
There were about half a dozen boots done of various in demanders including salvadors , george blackwell and Johnny vanelli all look almost identical to the originals but they had "Pb" in the runout grooves. as far as i know a certain well known person who is still very much involved in the scene was responsible for these Link to comment Social source share

Guest soul stormers
Try 'funkyou' on SS who as it for sale at $4000, which is about £2240. I 'believe' it was re-pressed around 1976 on the green label; who was/is the P.B. responsible for this and others? You can only really tell and original is by comparing it to, say, a Phil Orsi, the silver/ gold ratio of the lettering. Shifty sold one to Marc F (Germany), so PM him for the exact details of run out etc. Personaly, I'm gonna spend my money on copies of MINT Detroit records on Tuna, Bonnie etc funkyou got one on ebay i think it only vg+ i hope this help Link to comment Social source share

Guest
To clear a few questions up on the Salvadors. 1. very first original press is St. Louis, vinyl is THICKER @ (1.18mm) with NO pimples in the vinyl, the green label is a deeper shade. I only known of one copy of this press, Carl Willingham owned it, I sold it to Australian collector for £2500 in really poor shape vg-. But it was the ONLY known copy. 2.Chicago press thinner vinyl @ (1.09mm vinyl) label is a lighter shade ie (the one we have on auction)has TWO visible pimples on the playing surface, these do NOT affect play but you can see them if you twist the record in the daylight. The matrx in the deadwax reads 62771 this number is lightly scratched in and staggered. Worth 2500 to 3500 we'd guess The deadwax matrix on both presses are IDENTICAL ie using the same masterplate. 3. The PB boots as Ted M. rightly points out came out of Los Angeles via our friend and yours Simon S. He did Mel Britt, George Blackwell, Johnny Vanelli, and many others at the same time all have P.B. in the deadwax. This gave birth to the story of Bob Cattaneo travelling from S.F. to L.A. to buy Simons latest fantastic find. When Bob saw all these top titles in mint condition he smelt a rat and on close inspection found P.B. in all the 45 deadwax's. Bob told Simon you can't sell these as originals. Simon admitted they looked a bit NEW, so he got George Blackwell our its sleeve and violently rubbed it on his carpet. (a ploy used on the Four Vandals scam) "there they look used now!!" 4.Then there is the dark blue label and obvious bootleg in styrene 1976 repro Delta # 100273 5. Then there is the same with a Light blue label. Edited June 18, 2006 by john manship Link to comment Social source share

Is this one real or a boot, they claim real? https://cgi.ebay.com/Rare-Northern-Soul-45-...1QQcmdZViewItem that type of distress to the label would be near impossible to fake, looks like an original that spent it's life on someone's floor. But you can't give 100% authentication from photo's or phone calls as both are inconclsive.. my guess is an original maybe even the heavy vinyl copy as the label green looks darker, but as i said photos and scans are inconclusive. Pete S
About 7 or 8 years ago, two copies of this were found at a record fair in Luton or somewhere like that in with a bunch of rock'n'roll and miscellaneous singles. Link to comment Social source share
Modernsoulsucks
Hello John, I had so much time on my hands when I was a full-time dealer but now I can see that I shoulda got myself a micrometer instead of wasting my time going fishing 3 days a week!! I just had a look at mine. No Pb, no dimples and found it in St. Louis. In thec absence of specialist tools I just looked at it in relation to a couple of 45s on Chess and USA which I assume are Chicago pressings and vinyl does appear thicker and more rigid. As far as I remember this copy is the same as 3 others I had and sold at Ritz in Manchester back in the 70's which came off a guy called Dave Berry in St. Louis who was a mate of Mark Edmund. At the time I think he said he got them offa guy who was something to do with the 45 but Im gonna email him to see if he can remember. So there may be more than one original St.Louis knocking about. Or maybe I've just not seen the dimples. Are they immediately evident on close inspection. ROD Link to comment Social source share

Rich Buckley
I've bought off Funkyou quite a bit - he's reliable and trustworthy, so if he's saying it's an original it will be Rich Link to comment Social source share
Guest James Trouble
I have the one off Funkyou. It's basically brand new, unplayed. I was very worried when I got it because it didn't match the description that the originals are ment to be, two bubbles/bumps on the vinyl, run out groove, knife edge vinyl etc... I rang Manship and he was surprised that I had the first pressing from St Louis that few people know about, in stone mint as new condition. He seems to think it would be worth a fair bit more than the copies most people have. John seemed to think it was only the second known copy I'd be happy to swap it for a mint- copy with the two bubbles on the vinyl and knife edged vinyl plus either a heavy swap or £1000 cash. I would swap it for a less than a mint- copy but the trade or cash would have to be more though. The copy I have has only been played twice in it's life, once by Funkyou and once by me, it is the finest example of a perfect northern soul record in perfect condition. It would probably suit a collector more than a DJ, seems a shame for me to hammer it everytime I DJ, and I'd prefer it to go to a good home rather than a clumsy DJ Thanks JT jamestrouble@hotmail.com Edited June 28, 2006 by James Trouble Link to comment Social source share

If you read it I'd guess it's at least the sixth and probably more. No axe to grind against John but his "astonishing" Luther Ingram issue also appears identical to the copy in my box, although mine is only VG++ I'd say. Vinyl demo with Detroit address and Atco distributed. I have no idea whatsoever what 45s are in collectors' boxes because every Northern 45 has not passed through my hands, although a lot have. I would think that John would agree with that as regards himself. ROD Link to comment Social source share
