Linky Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I'm not bothered either way, but I'm sure some people will be interested and would like to donate. I do think it's a nice touch the excess raised will go to a dependency clinic though. https://www.justgiving.com/local/project/wigancasino 1

I'd be happy to donate to the clinic - but a blue fecking plaque to stick up in a shopping centre! Nah, not for me. Peter 3
Mach Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Having spent the happiest nights of my life at the Casino, i think installing a permanent plaque at this site is a Great idea, it should never be forgotten, and should go down in Musical History, and all the excess funds go to the clinic,..a win win situation i reckon

They are registered with the Charity Commission though and do have audited accounts. Peter
Guest Dave Ward Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 A blue plaque outside a shopping mall. To be unveiled by the usual suspects, complete with a bowling shirted entourage, 20 seconds on the local news and that's your money spent. I loved the people, the music, the atmosphere, you can't stick a plaque on that.

T'other Mark - I too, will not be investing. As I said, I'm not bothered either way and I have no connection with the appeal or the charity - just saw it on a facebook page and made me giggle 1
Zed1 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 (edited) Why can't the local council pay for it given they seem more than happy to advertise the town as "The Home of Northern Soul"?. Which is a little ironic given they spent most of the 70's trying the shut the place. Edited October 31, 2013 by Zed1 3
Guest gordon russell Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 what about a bronze statue of a bloke in baggy trousers doing a spin
Guest Polyvelts Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 what about a bronze statue of a bloke in baggy trousers doing a spin What I want to know is when are the bags wearing revivalists gonna start wearing pegs and 't- bag' American football shirts, they must be overdue that transformation by now !?!?

Guest Dave Ward Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Cracks me up when I go to watch my football team play badly at Wigan Athletics ground, Wigan play Northern Soul as half-time entertainment, as if they invented it ! Pity their team doesn't wear bowling shirts and 40" Spencers bags, we might get a draw next time.
Steve S 60 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Noticed on the website that they exceeded the target of £1250 for this. Did it ever get commissioned?

Gouch Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Troop; A large (very large) bronze statue of Russ Winstanley clutching an alniter adidas (dont forget the advertisig revenue possibilities here) bag and a copy of Frank Wilson, next to the plaque would be fitting Other than that just take a fiver off all those who never went anywhere near Wigan let alone the Casino who attend the Wigan reunion band wagon nights, that should be more than enough. Or we could hold another 'world northern soul dancing' championship and make the contestants pay for the pleasure of entertaining those present. Ok Ok your right, Im not taking this very serious, I'll go and stand in the corner for an hour. Gouch
Lucky One Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 After 32 years why bother, I bet very few locals can recall the casino by now.It is only of interest to the live in the past crew on this scene. I went to the casino many times and have visited Wigan a few times on business with my previous employer in more recent years, I always liked the town and it`s people and the casino as a venue was great, but please can we move on. 1
