Bore the life out of me as I can't sing along to them. No soul just a beat. Thankfully I don't hear them out often but am aware they was a major part of the scene back in the day.

Was talking to someone the other day about this and they would love to hear more played at events.

More or less what's your thoughts ?

Hearing that Halloween tune and the harmonica.....made me think of these 'obvious instru's....which went back to me bedroom days....! Mighty Mouse being me favourite piano break of the 3...but all have their merits and have featured in most of ours 'Soul' career...I reckon!!x

Get Your House In Order (1974)

The chaumonts-now you've gone -baysound  . c,up at wigan for pat brady, then a big sound for guy at Stafford.

The stairways - don't you care-Richie.dave Mitchell&the screamers c/up at Morecambe.

the lp on mainstream is great

From my point of view, its probably different from a northern soul fan

I have loved instrumental music since Mcgriff and Smith

instrumentals are part of my head

i could not imagine soul without the musicians

ray barretto for example

he was  latin percussion

but much soul

i could go on for weeks

I would have given anything for a copy of this in the early seventies.

I  love funky hammond things like this

full blast in the car !

You won't get much better than this for a hammond instrumental Gareth, in my opinion.  Shades of 'Light my fire' by the Doors me thinks.

Innocent Bystanders - Frantic Escape, mega Torch sound and f**king awesome

Shelly

I don't want this thread to end. I have a couple in my head that I never knew the name of. If we carry on for a year or so, they might come up.

New to me & loved the start but it just never really seems to get going for me?Might be one those that needs a few more plays,it's certainly got something..........but has it got enough I'm not sure yet?Slipped in at the right venue during the right spot & it could be a winner

Cheers

this is awesome - played it out again the other ,,,,week brill tune

Yes I do love the vocal to this, but on a great sound system that can cope with the Bass with no distortion, this sounds fantastic.

And this

Sometimes the instrumental is much better than the vocal, as in Double Cooking by the Checkerboard Squares!  The vocal spoils the atmosphere of the production.

Northern Soul relies heavily on production so instrumentals work well, no good if you are a deep soul/modern fan though!

what l don,t get is why credit an instrumental...........to a singer lol

I remember falbala played in Cleo's supplied by my mate who purchased it at Samantha's Sheffield ,

Instrumental is mostly for Stomping and most do not stomp no more .

Jackie Edwards Bands Instrumental version to " Millie - Mixed up, fickle, lonely, self-centred, spoiled kind of boy "

Never Again

Personally I love a good instrumental - and so do the producers of cooking programmes it would seem - I heard more northern instrumentals on Paul Hollywoods show yesterday than there have been on this thread!
