Bore the life out of me as I can't sing along to them. No soul just a beat. Thankfully I don't hear them out often but am aware they was a major part of the scene back in the day.

Was talking to someone the other day about this and they would love to hear more played at events.

More or less what's your thoughts ?

brilliant track, on the kool kat label, had it about 2 years but never played it out yet, i really should dig into the back of me record box.

agree, monster tune waiting to happen again...couldn't envisage a vocal to this somehow, even though the title is a reference to darrell banks ( well sort of ). backstreet/detroit rhythm section....another awesome dancefloor killer...and how about guy's sweeter than the day before....when was the last time you heard that played anywhere? ( other than where guy gets to dj )

What about Soul Sam's latest purchase from Soul Bowl the unissued instrumental to James Bounty's "Prove Yourself A Lady" as spun at Lifeline on Saturday

Not just the straight backing track but slightly faster  take with extra horns

Dave

Interesting and obviously it will be better than Simon Soussan's dreadful instrumental version of 'Prove Yourself A Lady' by The The Soul Things on Soul Galore (!)

I remember hearing loads of Soussan's instrumentals at The Casino one terrible night.

Ahhh just right to put into the middle of a Lifeline set……I heard it and it's pretty good as instrumentals go.

Me too (except Rosemary)

I know it sounds cheesey now Pete, but back then I thought it was fantastic. Same goes for Susy's Serenade. No one will admit to liking it, but it was massive back in the day. Oh and Bubblegum Breakthrough, Footsee, Brown Sugar etc, etc.

Ps. Just remembered one that was huge and I've never heard it since the seventies. Van McCoy- Soul Improvisations pt.1. I used to bloody love that at the Mecca.

And here's one that drips a soulful tune ......erm maybe not!  :D   This effort that sounds like a Salvation Army band warming up used to ram dancefloors! I was lucky, I always seem to need a waz when this came on!

No I mean I prefer the vocal of Rosemary, always did.  Suzys Serenade, I once started a topic on that saying I'd never known anyone who actually liked it. I think it was called "the records that nobody likes"

When they are great they are really great imho. Voicemasters acetate, Kinettes, Exus Trek...the Detroit one that used to be played at the Capitol. Amazing records. The idea that a record has to have lyrics to be soulful suggests a misunderstanding of the music.

exus trek.....the vocal/isntr mix that nick brown used to play you mean?...i remember taking that into a studio and doing the same myself...it ended up almost 5 minutes long but totally brilliant...best of both worlds!!...you should ask mr. rushton why he's NEVER put that out as he has a copy ( i gave him it )
