Reg Scott Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Scuse I for my ignorance, but can some learned members inform one as to the rarity of the RPR issue in comparison to the Demo of Lonely Lover - Jimmy McFarland. Seen a couple this year after a long drought. Information appreciated.

Robbk Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I've seen maybe 15-20 white demos over the years I searched for records, since its issue (1966-1983). I've NEVER SEEN a stock issue in circulation. I'd guess that the stock issue is MUCH, MUCH rarer.
Pete S Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Quick story about this, a decade or so ago I had a mate who got me some fantastic records from the States, name was Chris, he was in this regular record (by then, CD) store in Florida with a box of 45's on the counter, they were all recent picture sleeve type things, except he said there were just two 60's records in the box - two demo copies of Jimmy McFarland. He said there were no other 60's records in the shop! What's all that about? 2

I lived in L.A. from 1966-1983, and NEVER saw a store stocker in a shop or even in a junk store, furiture store or thrift shop (or at a party, or in anyone's collection for that matter). I saw many white DJs. The store stockers probably never left distributors' warehouses, and never saw the light of day in USA. 2

In my experience lots of people collect that way. Buy a record, then find a better copy with the intention of selling the first copy - but never get round to it. I have loads of spares of things - and I'm not alone Richard

Waiting to get a great deal (overpayment) to maximise the return, or for someone who wants it so badly, he can get some record back in trade that he can't get any other way.

First one had water damage so upgraded it. Now sitting on the spare to trade for something tasty in the future as vinyl speaks louder than cash sometimes.

Everyone gave it attention but no-one bought it. That includes two of the country top dealers (thought they may of made an offer - but saying that they both did spend well on other stuff) Pulled it out of sales box and keep it.
