JOE TORQUAY Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Harry Moon Woman's Man C/w No Matter What Insanely RARE vocal-group assisted Philadelphia double-helping of “impossible” Northern Soul. Urban-group-sound from the early 70s, an “Intruders” “Gamble & Huff” influenced dance-soul from the desk of George Guess who leaves the contributing vocal group off the label credits, but we can safely surmise this session Harry Moon is supported by the fluid vocals of The Dream Merchants. So click and be prepared to be astonished by this uplifting, purely inspirational Northern Soul that up to this moment in time has been depriving the dancefloor masses of a killer - all down to it’s sheer rarity and not enough top DJ’s being able to boast of playing a copy. Light surface marks and a little label wear but I’m still shakin’ in my shoes with delight at being able to hear, hold and enjoy such a rare piece. MAGIC! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,514.00 Tommy Tucker Hi-heel Sneakers An iconic recording that set dance clubs around the world alight! Not least Manchester’s “TWISTED WHEEL” Robert Higginbothom’s 1963 recording helped to launch Roger Eagles “Wheel” adventure through it’s formative month’s as he sought-out the punchy R&B / Soul dance 45s releases. So iconic a MOD anthem this became it featured in The Who’s “Quadrophenia” - and most every revival “Wheel” DJ set since. Potent utterly raucous twelve-bar dance-blues! Most important aspect of this listing is the staggering condition of the vinyl, labels & and cover. Forensic inspection - we can find not a blemish to spoil it’s high grading. RARE, iconic and drench in “art” and history! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 127.00 Shirlean Williams & The Tempo's Band This Is A Song C/w Ease It To Me Not one but two 70s urban-funk grooves just perfect for today’s upfront Northern Soul DJ. This North Carolina street level release offers vibrant funky arrangements for an expressive sister vocal to ride. Wasn’t sure at first which side i preferred, but after several listens the label flipside choice came out on top for me. Huge potential for the adventurous NS jock to please those dancers who are widening their dance-horizons. Or for the FUNK club DJ to impress the already converted, twice over. Condition is perfect! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 420.00 Sacred Four Somebody Watching You A DJ must have - as this 45 today’s Northern Soul sound captured perfectly! An intoxicating mix of Gospel, Funk & vocal-group dance that is now setting dancefloor’s alight! One listened and your hooked, one play for the DJ and the club ignites into electric sweaty experience as the group transfer their enthusiasm directly to the audience. This is NOW - and it’s instant ! A few very fine light surface marks - but as you can hear - it’s plays perfectly! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 512.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Sam & Dave Soothe Me Currently perhaps the most-popular of all the Twisted Wheel revival tunes - as Sam Moore & Dave Prater beef up Sam Cooke’s composition the Sims Twins recorded so neatly. Neatly perhaps, but nowhere near as effective as the dynamic-duo inject Memphis motivation creating an instant dance-floor igniter. There are three very important aspects of this 1966 British release to consider. The condition is like new. This is the limited very 1st pressing run with the DARK BLUE label. and most imperative, is this is the STUDIO version NOT issued in the USA, where Stax chose to go with “Recorded Live at The London Palladium” recording, which is benign by comparison. You will not acquire a finer copy - well I’ve certainly not seen one in memory. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 80.00 Embers You Can Lump C/w Forever Strong early 60s vocal-group Northern Soul you just don’t bump into anymore.. our first copy for a very long time, so how cool was it to again hear this smooth horn-charged doo-wop influence slab of Northern Soul… It’s always puzzlin’ that an old friend, you appreciate them the less you see them..today this tune sounds a much more weighty production than i remember and the spectacular sax-break took me pleasantly by surprise. Wow, I’d like to reintroduce this to my DJ sets, which are overwhelmingly vocal-group dancers.. Revival… is a certainty, as it never really got the depth of exposure it obviously deserved the last time round in the mid-90s? Today it sounds perfect dancefloor food.. This disc has remained a true rarity..well forever - which brings me to the flipside “Forever” a seriously sought-after Doo-Wop groove, another reason making it an even harder to acquire 7” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 231.00 Marvin Gaye A Tribute To The Great Nat King Cole British Tamla Motown junkies.. you will not find a finer copy EVER! Marvin’s tribute to one of the greatest vocalist and jazz pianist of the last century is nothing short of riveting. The condition of this rarely encountered 1965 British press is utterly spellbinding too.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 64.00 Othello Robertson So In Luv C/w Come On Home Oakland’s finest gather to construct exquisite Northern Soul, a 1967 Bay Area recording that again underlines the wealth of gifted musicians the East Bay boasted. Simplistic piano is blasted aside by stabbing horns and strumming bass guitar, Othello’s wailing vocals tell how she’s so very much in love and wants to marry the guy one day. Eddie Foster & Dell Randle (Othello’s partner on their preposterously rare “Testifi” 45) drive the session pushing Othello’s vocal higher & higher as the session builds.. pure power seeps from ever element of the song.. Proper real deal Northern Soul in it’s rarest form the RED TEXT press in perfect condition! Looks fabulous sounds even better… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 455.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Little Hank Mister Bang Bang Man C/w Don't You Know Firmly written into Soul-Boy folklore as being the most-wanted least seen British Soul “RELEASE” that ever graced the turntables of the Twisted Wheel. Available from UK Decca for just a fleeting moment, as it swept to number one want on the back of the then 3 year old Twisted Wheel all-Night club plays and the frustration of all the smart Wheel faithful trying to order a copy in ‘66, only to be met with their local record shops orders, being returned with that dreaded word - DELETED! Well your frustration of nearly 50n years could be relieved - this copy is in Record Shop newly o0rdered condition - it is without question to finest copy I’ve ever encountered. I’m honored and pleased to see a 48 year old legend with only two merest blemishes on the vinyl to miss the coveted Mint grade.. but does a truly Mint copy exist today.. maybe not…this is “as good as it gets” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 179.00 Phonetics Don't Let Love Get You Down C/w Pretty Girls This rarity has lived in the shadows of “Just A Boys Dream” for far too long, every note as good, in fact controversially I like this by Willie Hutch Trudel session the most of the six different recordings they put to Trudel vinyl. So much so I dropped the needle on at that bravely-upfront Northern Soul venue Bishop’s Wood on Saturday night, shrinking dancefloor room to maneuver, leaving the dancers to appreciated every last drop of those supremely soulful vocals fuse into a wall of sound. Take another listen to a side that has undeservedly suffered as a flip to “Just A Boys Dream” but this example as it very first release on Trudel 1005 should cost you far less than Trudel 1008 will.. Top-drawer Los Angeles vocal-group Northern Soul from the city’s most talented exponent of the sound - hats off to Mr. Willie Hutch. PS condition - of vinyl and labels could hardly be finer. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 194.00 Kim Weston Take Me In Your Arms (rock Me Sa Little While) C/w Don't Compare Me With Her Tamla Motown serial up-graders look no further this 45 is in staggering condition. The Holland - Dozier - Holland machine turns out perfectly crafted Detroit Northern Soul - a femme-stomper with few equals, a floorshaker that has delighted the crowd since the days of the Twisted Wheel and will of course continue to do so. But do take time to listen to Soul-Sister despair on the flipside, when H-D-H change direction to serve up a Deep Soul groove, maybe just to prove the company had real soul as well as the nouse to make irresistible dance music. To underline this listing - we doubt you’ll ever find a cleaner, more perfect copy! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 111.00 Earl Jackson Soul Self Satisfaction As featured on September’s BBC Culture Show’s tribute to Northern Soul and 40 years of Wigan Casino. If you missed that show - do move Heaven & Earth to view, what is at long last an intelligent look into the Northern Soul scene. This tune was portrayed as a Wigan Casino anthem - it was of course played pre-Wigan but who cares? This Chicago tornado of soul encapsulates EVERYTHING that built this scene, into what it is today. Well done the BBC and well done Johnny Pate what you created that day with Earl Jackson I will take to my grave remembering the effect it had on me and 1000’s of amphetamine-fueled teenagers on the Casino or Cats dancefloor and how it took us a week to recover.. TIMELESS PROPER REAL DEAL NORTHERN SOUL! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 311.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Phillip Mitchell Free For All (winner Take All) This week’s immaculate Northern Soul classic - goes in the form of a record that seldom turns up for sale these days - but with genuine Mint - vinyl …absolutely never! Click the soundfile to collide with one of the most-memorable-motivational intros ever to lead on a Northern Soul record. A softly rattling piano builds in volume to fever-pitch.. then smack! those Muscle Shoal horns kick in! WOW this is Northern Soul that transformed THE TORCH dancefloor into a 70s X-Factor trail for gymnasts, especially when the pianist likely Spooner Oldham, does a solo…just too much. Does Northern Soul get any better more explosive than this.. not many! Radio Station received date on flipside label is the only blemish we can find! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 100.00 Detroit Executives Cool Off Autographed - Pameline TEST PRESS DO NOT let anyone ever tell you this press is THE ORIGINAL test-press of the “GREEN” original. It isn’t! This White Label hand-written label is from the second run of the “Orange” later release that “Popcorn” Wylie ran off during the early 70s. This example is one of only a very few ever made and signed by the man himself. A huge contributor to Northern Soul and quite rightly considered a Doyen of the Detroit Sound. His signature alone is a thing to behold - but this listing also offers rarity and a timeless NS classic that stood out amongst all the stompers of the day - a refreshing change of pace that made it a monumental favourite with the dancers at Cleethorpes Pier & Wigan Casino seeking a breather in a night of relentless upbeat floorshakers. Signed Test Press from the orange label 2nd. run, that’s what this is…but it’s rare and bristling with provenance! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 123.00 Reuben Howell You Can't Stop A Man In Love A meeting of the minds - Philadelphia prowess meet Muscle Shoals muscle, resulting in the most-divine mid-tempo slab of early 70s dance soul it would be possible to construct. A firm dancefloor favourite now for over 3 decades, which witnessed it availability shrink to what it is now…let’s face it if your not quick off the mark this 45 is near impossible to secure. It is one of those listing as set sale item, that attracts of week long stream of phone calls for the single copy you had.. Take a listen you’ll understand why - then view the tempting PROMO complete with it’s picture sleeve. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 63.00
Pete S Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I just about got £25 for my copy of the Tommy Tucker EP!
