shuggie61
Hi I'm starting to get interested in finding great uptempo gospel records that don't bang on about God or Jesus too much. Heard Salem Travelers "Wade In The Water" earlier this year and absolutely loved it. Is there a thread about these kind of records? Or recommendations? Thank you! Greg Belson
I can never understand the bug bear of having a problem with the lyrics though. Listen to the amazing music and some of the most heart wrenching, mind blowing vocal performances you're ever likely to hear.....if you let the subject matter (which in essence is usually a positive message or a socio-conscious document of the artists surroundings, much like any secular r&b or soul artist) get in the way of discovering these tunes, then you might just be missing out. Here's a few more though; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqP77zzxgxk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrsV6cKUdZ8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZJDGCVaYQw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eecspi3RyME https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aK2Rb5XU_c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiyRvlmyISI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNAZYu4aBCg Link to comment Social source share

I agree Greg. I'm an atheist but it doesn't bother me that they are singing about God. I even find myself watching Shirley Caesar's sermons on Youtube! It's just great music. I'm not a religious person in the slightest......I do believe in the right to personal choice though so if religion is a major part of an individuals life, then I respect that......all I ask is to respect my choices too. I decided to explore the gospel path years ago, when the music and performances really spoke to me.....not the message. It would be wrong to be judgmental about the lyrical content, and miss out on such wonderful, heart felt and emotional performances.....and as I started to discover and scratch the surface of this genre, I realised just how vast it really is. This music deserves to be documented and it's the catalyst for so many secular soul & r&b tunes we all know and love. So for me, the discovery is part of the thrill, the documentation of often recordings so small in distribution, they'd only be available for one Sunday at the local church. There's so much to uncover from my era of choice which is circa '64 to circa '84, and every day there's something fresh and exciting to listen to! 2 Link to comment Social source share
