This may be an urban soul myth . . . . . but is there a 12" 'Idris Muhammad - I'm A Believer' somewhere out there, never seen or heard but it could be in the running for my favourite just by imagination alone!

Burn Him, Burn Him.....He's a Witch!!!!!!!     :wicked:     made me chuckle !

If it is 12" and not LP'S

here  Barbara tucker Most Precious Love

F*ckin brilliant tune, and by far the best mix too.  The part after 5.00 minutes, is one of those bits of music that you get lost in, and it takes you to another level. Love it

The album this came off "Keep Hope Alive' is one I play all the time and never tire of hearing.  No fillers on that album!

Great to see the Chris Ballin track posted.  The album has to be one of the best ever British released soul album.  Pure class

Isn't that a double album? If so I think I got it hidden somewhere in the record room. Must have a look tonight.

Yes that's the one.  It's got Kenny Bobien - Hiya Luv, Byron Stingily - Spread Love, Ultranate - Wonderful Place, Joi Cardwell - Be yourself.  All great tracks

Blimey. It's like asking what's you favourite 45, LP or CD. Or even your favourite soul record. Such a broad spectrum of 10,000s to choose from.

...at my first gig after 10 years a couple of week-ends ago....I heard Lou Rawls...Let's Clean Up The Ghetto. I was outside talking at the time and walked into the Dayer to make sure it is what I heard! The floor was rammed. I carried that around with me for 9 years to Northern dooes...and daren't ever play it once....except at Soulie 'party's I did!x On that basis....the gloves are off........!!!x

My fav 12" of all time.....none of which I would ever play today but for the 7"inch versions...they go oooon init!!........and had them in me initial collection of around 30 tunes on 12" vinyl in '77/8....

...and this was the last 12" from back in the day I bought to add to me collection....none of which survived to the current collection as 12"!x

I bought the Propellorheads 'History' tune on 12" and Marlena Shaws and Candi Statton's 90's tunes too....but that's 'it' for 12" these days...3 of...!x

...and as said....the gloves are off.....and this comes from the same stable as Lou Rawls.......Stomper end...!x I swear I had it as a 12" as a kid......??? But can't find it listed or on utube anywhere......so the good news is....I have a 'quick' 7"....when the time is right....and it will be...somewhere..soon....!x

Lol yes it is your imagination running wild, it was released on 45/LP in 1971... . Maybe it lives in the same imaginary box as the imaginary original 12 of Eddie Kendrick's date with the rain :)

I know, where do you start?

Posted

Impossible to answer but here's a few for various reasons.
First one simply because I bought it today & also because it's beautiful.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0QYXUkdZqA

Next one because it's a far superior version to the 7" cut.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l-zVS-IuU4

Next two because they are the full versions as there are sections & verses missing from the 7" cut's & also the sound quality is far better than the 7" cut's.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD5idGxxdxo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrVmQWMKS_E

Last one simply because I love it & have done since 1976. One of the very first 12" releases & quite a bugger to get on a 12" on Scepter records. Know the 7" was a big chart hit but listen to the 12" to hear it in all it's glory.

Can't find the album. Means I probably sold it   What a c*nt I am. I still have so much dross from my soulful dance days and it looks like I sold the goodies.

Not rare but think it sounds essential to me.

Quite a few goodly Womagic tracks on 12"ers .............

"So Many Sides of You" made it out on a UK Motown 12" as well as on a UK Motown 7".

"If You Think You're Lonely Now" escaped as a Motown 12" B side track with "Suprise, Suprise" taking the top side honours AND the same cut ("Lonely") also escaped on a UK promo only Motown 12" (MPR13) which featured "Where Do We Go From Here" on the A side.

.... then there was "Lay Your Lovin On Me" which made it onto a German Motown 12" (again as the B side).

Going further back, there's the UA 12" that has "I Feel A Groove Coming On" as one of its tracks ........

........ So Many Sides of You
.... If You Think You're .........
.... Lay Your Loving ...........

Come on John take a step into the dark side.

I love the dark side, me.  I’ll take any original format as long as it’s soulful.  I've got loads of 12’s; it’s just really hard trying to choose which ones to highlight.  Also got a quite a few small shiny silver disky things and those downieloadiables.

Will have a think over the weekend, a few of rusty and dusties, just off the top of my head:

  • Lew Kirton — Heaven In The Afternoon — The extra verse makes it better than the 7” for me
  • Clausel — Let Me Love You — The longer baseline intro knocks spots off the 7”
  • McFadden & Whitehead — Ain’t No Stopping Us Now — Over 10mins of magic
  • Funder Cooper — She’s All Right —  A Soul Sam play wasn’t it?
  • Charles Blackman — Special Part Of Me — This guy’s voice was great
  • Jay Player — Love Is the Answer — There’s a great middle part, which is on the flip side of the 7”
  • Jerry Warrren — I Really Love You — The 7” is harder, but you want the full length version — don’t you?
  • Kim Tollier — Where Were You — IMO The long version is reason why the 12” exists
  • Hotliners — Coldhearted — Always loved this.
  • Roger Hatcher — Stormy Lover Affair — Sadly his last release, but what a release it is
  • Herbert Hunter — I Want You Back — Just a great dancer and one of the last new releases I bought before entering record buying hibernation
  • Waters — What’s On Your Mind — Classy midtempo soul
  • Don Hollinger — Love on the Phone — You need the 12” for the long version with rap

PS If you said dance ones, that would be different obviously, lets throw this in. One of the greatest soul dance records, ever. Fact.

Tune and a half. Still got a sizeable collection of soulful house or just house music as I knew it late 80s mostly,  some amazing 12" tunes out there particularly on the Atlantic label
