Dave Rimmer Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Not wishing to doubt Sean's comprehensive knowledge, but wasn't it Freddie Gorman who kept his job as a postman. ?
Guest Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 (edited) Didn't he do the unreleased original version of 'Have You Got A Loight Boy' ? Was Solomon King Lukas Lollipop? Didn't JJ Jackson die some time ago ? Edited June 15, 2006 by Simon White
Simon T Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Not wishing to doubt Sean's comprehensive knowledge, but wasn't it Freddie Gorman who kept his job as a postman. ? He was known as the 'singing postman', don't know if he was a full time postman, but didn't he write 'Please Mr Postman' too ? Also, in the Originals & Satintones?
Simon T Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 2. Which Velvelette was also a Vandella Betty Kelly?
Stateside Posted June 15, 2006 Author Posted June 15, 2006 Sean, Not bad, but I seem to have got you on the lyrics Q3 very well known song, but not so well known is this extra verse, which was included when someone else did it as an album track. It then turned out that the well known version also had this extra verse on the master tape but was edited out for the single. Now available on cd!! and we're talking Motown. Freddie Gorman was the postman although R Dean Taylor may have been as well - I don't know Q14 Lee Charles Close! - "Sitting on a time bomb" is on the other side and is the inst to the Honeycone. Kev
Sean Hampsey Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Nice One Kev, Yes Dave Rimmer already mentioned that Freddie Gorman was a Postman. I must admit that he didn't immediately spring to mind last night, but I'm sure that he Dave is correct. Always thought that R Dean Taylor was also a Postman, but could be my memory playing tricks on me. Certainly no great shakes as a singer! I'll leave the Q3 lyric to someone else eh? Might be best if I sit out the next Quiz. Kinda spoils the fun for everyone else. Oh... and for future Reference I normally go to bed about 1.00am. Thanks Kev. Really good sport! Sean Hampsey
Dave Moore Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 He was known as the 'singing postman', don't know if he was a full time postman, but didn't he write 'Please Mr Postman' too ? Also, in the Originals & Satintones? Yep, Freddie Gorman wrote the song. His solo Ric Tic outings are amongst the milestones of Detroit Soul. Very sad to say that coincidentally, Freddie passed away a couple of days ago. RIP Mr Gorman. Job Well Done Sir! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
