Popular Post Rick Scott Posted October 12, 2013 Popular Post Posted October 12, 2013 Good God i hope not. The two that Payo did were ok ish(well maybe the 1st one) but to be fair it's now a nite club, now looks nothing like it did inside like back in the day with Mary and Colin at the helm, would hate it to become another Wigan Casino laughing stock. I have great memories of the place and would like to keep them that way,Rick Scott 4

spot Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 (edited) Good God i hope not. The two that Payo did were ok ish(well maybe the 1st one) but to be fair it's now a nite club, now looks nothing like it did inside like back in the day with Mary and Colin at the helm, would hate it to become another Wigan Casino laughing stock. I have great memories of the place and would like to keep them that way,Rick Scott For once I actually agree with you Rick, We went to both & I felt for Payo. The first one had a bloody great Dj Tower on the dance floor & you entered via the front of the building and if I remember correctly it was freezing as some clown had had the air con on all day instead of the heating , the second one was worse as the weather was bad and all the gutters were blocked and water was teeming through the roof in various places, going to the loo you got a free shower. When Kev Roberts did the dayer the place was split into 2, with a modern room/bar at the front and the main room dominated by a massive stage area of about a third of the room and a tiny dancefloor, you couldn't even swing a circled skirt . These 3 times spoilt the memories a tad for me & as Rick says it needs to be left as a tribute to Mary & Colin in our minds, even the Winter Gardens never came close for me after the Pier ended, I can feel the place bouncing & hear the stomping & clapping as you walked up the Pier & it still making my stomach somersault & the hair (What little I have left) stand up on the back of my neck just thinking of it. Spot. p.s. There's a short clip of the Pier Nighter on You Tube & you can clearly make out Fizz from Harrogate dancing. p.p.s. Just seen clips been posted. Edited October 13, 2013 by spot 1

Bazza Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Great memories of the Pier, remember freezing my balls off waiting for it to open ,the wind blew straight up through the boards out side ,never went to the Gardens ,so can't comment on that Bazza
Sunnysoul Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 (edited) very fast dancers at cleethorpes 1975... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lr_FF7pLrmw As this predates the This Is Wigan doco, and in the absence of any firm evidence of any footage of the Wheel which some have said does exist, this would have to be the first film footage in existence of a northern soul event? Rick Scott Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 So not only a legendary venue but could be now a piece of Northern Soul history, wow! well done that man with the cine film camera! 1
