ImberBoy
The Perfect Allnighter? Is there such a thing as the perfect Allnighter? I am out almost every Saturday, I don't do Soul Nights, I don't do Dayers or “Mini Nighters” (Whatever the fook they are?) I adore Allnighters and I am always searching for my idea of the perfect night spent with the people I love and the music that I believe defines me, I am also constantly searching for that new sound or that forgotten tune that will either catapult me back to a bygone time or make me go Oooooooooh. The British Allnighter Scene offers a SmörgÃ¥sbord of tastes with the rough and ready to the super polished, there are a lot of critics out there, hark at me, and some venues are given a raw deal due to the perception of the promoter based on historical faux pas that more often than not either sound ridiculous or just plain made up, no matter I wish to explore the diverse choose and to see what you dear reader wants from an Allnighter? My favourites change every now and again but my top list at this moment in time are as follows and in no particular order, The Irish Club in Nottingham, Nuneaton, Radcliffe, Stoke and Keele. Each one for me offers a different slant and a different experience, I relish each of those for many different reasons and feel quite aggrieved if I ever miss one of those Nighters. If I was pushed and had to make the impossible choice of just one, my choice would be Stoke. It may well be the perfect Allnighter offering me the cathedral Northernsoul experience that just oozes atmosphere and adds that unexplainable essence to the musical experience, loads will roll their eyes at this and say “Divvy” due to the Casinoesque tag that is undeniably there and yes there are a fair few dressing up and many are Northernsoul Tourists but that doesn't actually deter from the experience and in a strange way it adds to the flavour like a supermarket bought bouquet garni and when you hear a record and watch a sea of dancers worshipping in this great hall then you will immediately be sold. Stoke is a game of two halves for me because I get the best of two worlds and I love the oil and water rooms and dive deeply madly head first into The Windsor Suite to gulp down the new, the strange and the soulful dance that doesn't follow the rule book. Stoke is a paradox, it represents two spectrum’s that are poles apart and two different types of punter equally enjoying their own take on this madness we call Northernsoul. Where the genius comes in is that both these rooms are next door to each other and geographically close yet perceptually in two different universes and it is this that I adore and stepping from one room to another is travelling from one realm to another, try it, you will like it. What do you want from an Allnighter and what is your favourite and why? Link to comment Social source share

Neo Funk for the chin strokers The Punters, well more women than men obviously, no silly VIP lounges, or queues. fatfish
As you enter main hall every other record is from the torch or early wigan from a crystal clear sound system. After a few hours dancing and listening to the golden era I venture to room two which looks remarkably like the kestrel suite oh fook it is and its delivering the atmosphere and tunes that a burnley niter is renowned for After 3 am they swap rooms and the oldies crowd finally get out of there comfort zone and appreciate what great tunes are still out there!! 1 Link to comment Social source share

Frankie Crocker
A few years ago, there was a hand written sign at the 100 Club saying No Talk On The Dancefloor. Winston was patrolling around the floor with his rounders bat that night so no one dared speak...A talc coated floor is a must when the floor is grunged up but the best floors, lovingly polished, never need talc. Do promoters ever give the dance floor the preferential treatment it deserves? I hear Johnsons do a pretty good floor polish which if used more regularly, would cut back on talc use and the petty restrictions it provokes. 2 Link to comment Social source share
Joefromupnorth
For me anywhere you can keep the numbers until the end which is getting harder with a good mix of the underplayed uptempo and smattering of classics.............seems the overplayed classics crowd pull out early if you forgive the pun and so with crowd gone the night then becomes flat.So if, if only we could bring back Middleton in its old place with the great mix of sounds and dj's and a crowd well up for it from start to finish and Simon knows he was right among it too that would be a winner !! Great one Phil Dick put on a bit back at Morecambe, brilliant music and room but again those there dancing before midnight had all but gone by say 2am leaving it almost empty.Nighters due to this must have a limited time now to run Stoke aside maybe where only the huge numbers ensure the place still has a few at the end but maybe they leave through thinking they have heard everything played more than once ! the reason i don't and haven't attended there for a few years now.........very sad really all this as the nighter is the real deal no question. Last saturday was a first in that ive never had free ice pops and coffee at a nighter ! ice pops are they the future ? Geeselad
Never been yet but Lifeline looks pretty damm close to what I,m looking for lifeline, bidds, 100 and burnley are the only nighters I've been to that can have the true spirit. KH can be as imber said a fantastc night out, the numbers certainly generate atmosphere, and I used to get a real feeling on the gathering of the clans, but many like me have grown, just a little, cynical of its commercial downsides. Ideal nighter would have lifeline as a venue the atmos of a 100 club anni and an even more progressive music policy than bidds, ie it would have Sam and maybe mr G or Big George as residents playing music made in the last 40 years and maybe we could loose this wholesale obsession with the friggin 6ts and really move on. and there would probably be me and the DJ's there! 3 Link to comment Social source share

dedji1955
Dance floor is one of the things that makes it for me and that rules out the 100 club.. My fav is Nunnie. It's bang on from the start to the finish, some nighters fade around 3-4 but this never happens at Nunnie. Mark always picks the finest DJs..Awesome sound system..There used to be a bit of an issue with piss pots but Kim sorted that..I'm glad they banned talc.. Radders is good..Love Stoke but there where more tourists playing about on the dance no doubt due to The Culture Show IMHO..Keele is the business and so was Coalville before it was moved The above is what I posted on FB and I would like to clarify to Jocko and others I am not a great fan of KR and certainly not one of his converts, whilst Goldsource rip off folks on the admittance fees their Nighters are good. Simon attends more Nighters in a month than a lot of the Keyboard Warriors attend in a year 2 Link to comment Social source share

Keeper
One of my favourite NITERS is the Polish Club(Club Polonia Great Lever )....been goin since it started.....its more like a party due to the size so if you want a massive venue you will be let down...but to mention another topic at the same time i think everyone is made to feel welcome there( Even Anton and Trickster !!) The djs can and do play what they want ....without fear of a bollocking ....requests always taken on board. To me it's one of those places where the venue itself is part of the night .(please don't jump down my throat...this is my opinion ..not an advert ) Dancefloor spot on.......theres even a stairlift!!!! Eddie Hubbard
I love The 100 Club , because of the great friends there , the sense of occasion when visiting London ,and historical values of The 100 Club .Plus of course Butch [ my favourite Rare Soul DJ ] , and Ady ,Keith and the various guests that add a different flavour to the night .Also love Lifeline , musically varied , with the accent on Rare and forgotten sides , nice venue ,and only an hour ,door to door for me .Really like Radcliffe , especially the smaller room , but miss the Soul or Nothing room like hell , it was musically heaven .Like going to Stoke when I can , it's the feel good factor , very positive ,everybody smiling and happy , and reminds me why I got a lifelong bug for Northern Soul ,plus the smaller room can be ,and is very good .Rugby is like family , very friendly , only 45 minutes from home , and the last one was awesome .So here's the thing ....I love or like all the others , but Burnley I simply can't miss , I think it's the excitement level that begins weeks before , carries on in the mini bus with the lads that run it , the setting up and the night its self .The music is usually of a high , gritty tempo , ideal for an All Nighter , and musically varies from ultra rare waxings to £10 cheapies that you've never heard before . This is confusing for me , bacause Crossover Soul is my favourite kind of dance music ,and hardly any gets played , but still I love it .A lot of the DJ's aren't big names on the scene , the venue is perfect , and just has that special indescribable blend of magic , when you know you'd rather be there than anywhere else in the world .........Eddie 3 Link to comment Social source share
