Guest Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 (edited) Usual spiel - PM or email me on mail@resolutionrecords.co.uk Ta.,...Mark 12"s Johnnie Hudson ‘Better Love’ (Jon E. Rock / USA / 1990 / M-) £10 ( Unplayed copy — still TIGHT in it’s shrinkwrap….killer Modern Soul dancer…the bassline pattern on this is absolutely mental — and all the better for it… ) Willis Jackson ‘Nuther’n Like Thuther’n’ (BGP / UK / 1980s / M-) £8 ( THE only place this amazing track exists on 12” — we also get on the flip ‘O Baby (I Believe I’m Losing You)’ — Billy Hawks and Pucho’s ‘Got Myself A Good Man’ — awesome trio — unplayed promo copy here… ) Lew Kirton ‘Heaven In The Afternoon’ (voc/inst) (TK Disco / USA / 1977 / M-) £50 ( Unplayed copy, still tight in it’s shrink, NEVER let us forget HOW MASSIVE this was @ Wigan Casino in the very-early 80s, just one of the biggest / best records EVER played on our amazing ‘scene and caused a stampede to the floor when Searling dropped it — goosebumps gear — wonderful extended mix here with those gorgeous extra vamping strings and we also get the inst’ mix which is only available on this 12” — exists nowhere else — never equalled…OG TK custom sleeve is A-1 too — I remember buying my first-ever copy of this @ Morecambe Pier ‘niter in 1983 for £15, a King’s Ransom back then…never regretted it for a second…. ) Pockets ‘Catch Me’ (ARC / USA / 1979 / M-) £5 ( Unplayed copy of this ex-Blackpool Mecca Modern Soul / Disco dancer — banging uptempo but none the worse for that — we used to call these ‘stompers’… ) Trilark ‘Love Never Looked Better’ (Handshake / USA / 1982 / M-) £5 ( Monster Boogie Business, shrunkwrapped tight in it’s correct custom sleeve… LPs: Ruby Andrews ‘Genuine Ruby’ (ABC / USA / 1977 / VG/M-) £10 ( Sleeve is (ring)worn / taped to all seams but no tears / rips etc — with the all time classic ‘Merry Go Round’ tune…so, so good… ) Lamar Barry ‘There’s Nothing Better Than Love’ (Tombionca / USA / 1986 / M-/M-) £20 ( Unplayed copy of this (rare) Modern Soul indemander…top dancer here ‘We’ve Got To Keep On Hangin (In There Baby)’ — sounds like one of the best of the Budweiser releases…unplayed copy here… ) Jimmy Briscoe and the Beavers ‘Jimmy Briscoe and the Beavers’ (Wanderick / USA / 1977 /M-/M-) £5 ( Unplayed copy of this scarce FLA Funk-Soul LP with THE bizarrest sleeve EVER with the front showing the band walking down the street each walking huge Dobermann Pinscher dogs!?! Back is just a car crash too…sack the art director…coupla nice dancers on here: ‘No One Can Love You Like I Do’ , ‘Invitation To The World’ etc etc…rarely pops up… ) Dayton ‘Dayton’ (UA / USA / 1980 / M-/M-) £5 ( Beautiful copy — with ‘Eyes On You’ etc etc… ) The New Lamont Dozier Album ‘Love And Beauty’ (Invictus / USA / 1974 / VG+/M-) £40 ( Minor ring wear to sleeve, otherwise A-1, wax looks A-1…’If You Don’t Want To Be In My Life’ , ‘New Breed Kinda Woman’ , ‘Why Can’t We Be Lovers’ etc etc…all-time classic… ) The Dee Felice Trio ‘In Heat’ (Bethlehem / USA / 1969 / VG/M-) £100 ( Such an AMAZING album: ‘The Crickets Sing For Anamaria’ , ‘Uncle’ , ‘There Was A Time’ , ‘Both Sides Now’ etc etc — one of JB’s finest…sadly the bottom seam has totally split (hence the VG grade) but otherwise the sleeve is A-1 — wax is impeccable, very fair price… ) Jeff Floyd ‘Changing Time’ (Murphy Floyd / USA / 1992 / M-) £15 ( Original press for this rare Modern Soul set (in red die cut sleeve — never originally came in a ‘regular’ sleeve…) with the rather wonderful Modern dancers ‘Walkin In The Rain’ , ‘Changing Times’ etc etc — my first-ever copy… ) Jeffree ‘Jeffree’ (MCA / USA / 1979 / M-/M-) £8 ( Still ‘tight’ in it’s shrink….’Mr. Fix-It’… ) Syl Johnson ‘Diamond In The Rough’ (London / UK / 1974 / VG+/M-) £10 ( Sleeve just slightly creased at corners, lam intact — minimal wear — wax = unplayed….very, very tough LP to find: Huge Hip Hop sample on title track for Raekwon The Chef (and others) on title track — classy Memphis / Willie Mitchell soul LP… ) Little Beaver ‘When Was The Last Time’ (Cat / 1976 / USA / M-/M-) £15 ( Unplayed copy — still in shrink: ‘Listen To My Heartbeat’ , ‘Concrete Jungle’ etc etc — one of his best…. Michele ‘Magic Love’ (West End / USA / 1977 / Ex+/M-) £5 ( Loft Classic from time: ‘Disco Dance’ is just an a-typical ‘go with the flow’ Disco Banger which ranges all over the place….love it — only 4 tracks on here — Tom-Tom in control here… ) Rocky Robbins ‘You And Me’ (A&M / USA / 1980 / Ex+/M-) £5 ( Looks unplayed to me? ‘Hang Tough’ , ‘You And Me’ . ‘Point Of View’ etc etc — early Modern Soul hero for some of the stuff he did — the Hull crowd were all huge fans — wonder why he chose a boxer’s name…? Tommy Stewart ‘Tommy Stewart’ (Abraxas / USA / 1976 / VG+/Ex+) £100 ( No Mark Rez list would be complete without a Tommy Stewart-related record of some sort or other and — as ya know — this one WILL be going down in the casket with me when my number is up — this LP has given me SO MUCH joy down the years that it’s just not true — if there’s one tune that is gilt-edged to lift me outta myself and get my hips a-swiveling, it’s ‘Bump N’ Hustle Music’ on here — what can ya say? The whole first side of this LP is possibly THE finest ever: ‘Fulton County Line’ , ‘Practice What You Preach’ , ‘Disco Hop’ etc etc — stand up, Tommy Stewart….minor wear and tear, minimal… ) Edited October 9, 2013 by Guest
