Peter99 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Syreeta - What love has joined together, love this 45, only seen UK tamla releases, did it come out in the USA? Malcolm Don't think so Malc.
Mal C Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 (edited) so she was a British singer? this has been in my i-tunes for years and i just came across it, quite blown away really... cant believe i didn't know it was in there... here's the track for those of you like me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46j5e0ifywQ good init.. m Edited October 8, 2013 by Mal.C. 2
Peter99 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Hi Malc She was an American. Still can't see any American release of this though. Syreeta Wright Muhammad Born August 3, 1946. Died July 6, 2004, of heart failure due to cancer treatment. Former wife of Stevie Wonder, sister of Yvonne Wright. Peter
Kegsy Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 (edited) Seem to remember she also had stuff out as Rita Wright Cant Back The Love I Feel For You, there was also a Rita Wright on UK Jet and Toast ? I reckon she was from the USA as she was once married to Stevie Wonder. Maybe she was also over here for some time via a Rolling Stones connection as I think she once toured with them. kegsy Edited October 8, 2013 by Kegsy
Mal C Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 (edited) she's got a really nice voice, I like that, good track... I'm a boring armchair listener so this ticks all the boxes, ie its very soulful!!! laughs actually just looked, it says produced by Stevie wonder on the UK release... m Edited October 8, 2013 by Mal.C.
Paul McKay Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 If I remember rightly she was in Stevie's backing band Wonderlove too
John Reed Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 What think is strange about this UK release is that the b-side "What Love Has Joined Together" has a 1972 publishing date, compared to "Harmour Love" which is 1975. The Euroepan releases of "Harmour Love" have "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" on the other side, which also has a 1975 publishing date. I wonder why guys at EMI in London thought differently from the rest of Europe (please no comments about UKIP and being different.....) 1
Mike Lofthouse Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Has had spins at the likes of Soul Essence over the years - great record 1
Dave Pinch Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) She had hits in the UK in 74/75 with spinning and spinning, your kiss is sweet and harmour love.. All played extensively on radio 1 at the time Edited October 9, 2013 by dave pinch
Rich B Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Nothing useful to add other than what a nice track. When you think of Syreeta you tend to think of that stuff she did with Billy Preston - which wasn't at all to my taste I'm afraid.
Soul Shrews Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Very underated singer IMO her 1st Motown LP was great also check out her LP from "77 "OneTo One" produced by Leon Ware no less Cheers Paul
Pete S Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 She had hits in the UK in 74/75 with spinning and spinning, your kiss is sweet and harmour love.. All played extensively on radio 1 at the time And at our disco - and all on Motown Chartbusters LP's I think. Spinning And Spinning was lovely.
dthedrug Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 HI ALL ..Smokey Robinson penned "what love bought together" was a in house favourite at HITVILE USA. It was record by many by many MOTOWN artists over a 7 year period. some of the recorded versions have never been released, those that did get released are on LPs or are B sides, the best version of the song was by the TEMPTATIONS 45 as the B side of "it's growing" (in my opinion) Mary Wells did a nice copy, However the very best version comes from JAMAICA on the Rupi Edwards SUCCESS LABEL by Dobby Dobbson who has a great voice, well suited for songs such as this, but his version is also the rarest of them all, and it is very elusive, I have 2 spare 12" copy's in the past I have sold it for £100, the 12" is a reissue released over 10 years after the 45 was released as a 7", the record was withdrawn very quickly hence it's rarity and high price if you see the 7" buy it, the 12" goes for £50 today if you want a copy from me, maybe I have under stated the value as I have seen and had more Glen Millers than copies of the Dobby Dobson DAVE K
Sean Hampsey Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 I included it on a Soul Source CD Swap some years ago. Maybe it came from there into your iTunes Mal C? Agreed, great tune, and a real grower. A Smokey song also done by Mary Wells and the Temptations amongst others. Sean
boba Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 just to confirm, syreeta is rita wright. i played this track on my radio show 3 days ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43r63WyyS9I
The Yank Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) "Harmour Love" ( the B side of "WLHJT" )did have a U.S. 45 release but with a different B side ("Cause We've Ended As Lovers" ). I don't think Syreeta's version of "What Love Has Joined Together " came out on 45 in the U.S. Edited October 9, 2013 by the yank
