Salvosoul Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 hi can you say me the next records fair with only northern soul on uk ?? october ,november or december 2013 please let me know the best records fairswith many dealers thank
Steve G Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 went to the one in London last weekend in Brick Lane - not a soul one but bigged up as featuring soul....really sad, and so far away from the days back in the 90's when we had Anderson, Manship, Withers, Plumb, Dick Sniff, Adey "Silver Fox", Des T and an assortment of other fellas all selling their wares.....Then you could spend a whole day looking at records. Last weekend all I'll say is thank goodness Des had a stall..... 1
Steve Plumb Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Those were the days Steve Would still love to be involved in a 100% Black Music Record Fair, especially one majoring in Northern, 70's, Crossover, Funk etc It'd be great if there were enough dealers & folks' who would attend (don't like using the word 'punters') to sustain a fair that could be run around the country in rotation? I say rotation (say, London, Midlands, Oop North etc) cos travelling costs are now so prohibitive for everyone these days? I think getting dealers is the easy bit, the main problem is getting folks' through the door, as the last few 'Black Music' fairs i've done had more dealers than folks' attending!!!!!!! imho there's nowt better than spending all day trawling through records - better than doing it virtually like many of us have to settle for these days! Can it be done? If the answer's yes, count me in! Cheers Steve 1

Surprised there was little soul stalls there Steve,i know the guy who organised it ,he`s a Reggae seller but he only works the main/Big record fairs in London which are mixed musically. Sadly it was my wife`s birthday last weekend so i could`t make it Trouble is now we have all been spoilt by buying off the internet, you don`t have to leave your home to get records anymore. Now postage rates have gone up,might be economically viable to get back out to the old ways of buying .
Steve G Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Hi Wayne, agreed on the internet. There were a couple of other sellers doing reggae and soul, and Rob Messer too, though bluntly nice fella that he is, he is not going to have anything I haven't already got. But apart from that the other couple of stalls with anything only had some beaten up UK pseudo-funk instrumentals, and old Soul pack leftovers like Detroit Emeralds later 45s on Westbound and don't figure on my radar as "interesting". There was a guy with a deep funk box which had a couple of nice bits in it, but not cheap - 2000 prices when deep funk was the emperors newish clothes.....On balance best off staying at home with your good lady....Des T had a few interesting 45s at a reasonable price, more sweet / stepper stuff, spent a few bob with him, but that was it. Steve
Salvosoul Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 if I understand correctly there not a record fair specialised in black music soul northern soul for the moment in uk ? i understand that it is more easy buy on ebay or on the net but i think that it is more fun search on a record box and listen with portable turntable for find any obscure records
Jordirip Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 hi can you say me the next records fair with only northern soul on uk ?? october ,november or december 2013 please let me know the best records fairswith many dealers thank You might find it easier to go to a big weekender like Prestatyn and trawl through all the records on sale there.

I haven't been under the "new management" but under the "old management" it had degenerated into a retro-tat market like Spitalfields on a saturday. I got caught up in some circle skirts which were hanging up, just trying to get behind the tables to sit with one of the few remaining record dealers....Let's hope it's got better..... 1

The last one (prestatyn)was pretty good for records all told Steve.... Could have done with less northern ugly tat clothing, mugs, bears, watches etc though. Nice . Regarding the record fair situation, can't believe things have got as grim as they have. Think it's just a general lack of money around and the spare cash people do have is quickly spent on the net. It just wasn't available ( the internet)years ago was it ?
Maxwell Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) Last one I went to was in Stockport area? a couple of years ago? Some great tunes for sale, Mr Manship was there but sadly a shortage of buyers. Think there was talk of another but on how many people turned up wouldn't think it was feasible.
