Solomon Burke Shocker

Normally I would put this into comedy sale of the day but it was too good not to highlight.

There's a record for sale on Ebay by Solomon King.  He was a popular late 60's singer from manchester of Jewish extraction.

Our seller thinks he is Solomon Burke, the American soul giant, who got booted off his label Atlantic and had to come to the UK to get a song written for him by Tom Jones' manager

THIS IS ONE OF THE RAREST PIECES OF JAMES SOLOMON McDONALD'S VAST OUTPUT. IN 1968 HE FELL OUT OF FAVOUR AT ALANTIC RECORDS IN THE U.S. AND TRIED ANOTHER LABEL.HE LANDED UP IN THE U.K. WITH THIS RELEASE..SIDE ONE WRITTEN BY LES REED AND BARRY MASON,AND SIDE TWO BY GORDON MILLS.BRITISH MUSICIANS BEHIND HIM,THIS WAS PROBABLY RECORDED AT EMI'S ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS...AFTER ALL THAT,HE NEVER HAD A HIT SINGLE HERE DESPITE SELLING 17 MILLION ALBUMS WORLDWIDE IN HIS CAREER.HE DIED ABOARD AN AIRCRAFT ON 10TH OCTOBER 2010.

Very true

Dave McCadden used to tell a nice story about Solomon King, apparently he used to live in the same street and he always gave the kids lollipops, so they called him the Lollipop Man, and one day they saw the Lollipop Man on Top Of The Pops!  (Something like that anyway)

:hatsoff2: HI AL   I may off mentioned this fact before, In the 7ts Solomon King did an appearance at a Gospel church in Little Brickiln Street, Wolverhampton, a load of Catacomb's regulars turned up demanding he sang Beautiful Day, not sure he did, or if the West Indian church goers were amused at the time, however this is a true story, from Paddy & Aggy    DAVE K
