Jason S Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 (edited) Here's list 10. There were a few more records on this list at 9am but loads have sold to email recipients;. Some crackers left, though. PM or email any wants - soulstacks@gmail.com Black Nasty - Party On 4Th Street/Freakish Self (Big Hit) - EX - 40 hear Tough one and best from them, from the pen of Johnnie Mae Matthews comes this great slab of Detroit party funk with that break intro. Flip has legs, too. Fantastic Epics - We Do It All Up In Here /Let's Get Together (Kelton) - VG - 60 hear hear Rough copy that plays better than the visual grade, not seen many minters of this great Chicago two-sider. You’ve got the Ian Wright schooled funk side with a great northern flip. Two-fer. Fruit - Say It/If You Feel It Say Yeah (Cypress) - M- - 50 hear hear 1978 Florida on the Cypress label. The studio is still operating to this day — google ‘em. Fruit liked doing long songs, both sides clocking at well over 4 mins. Two good late 70s funky soul dancers. Gwen McCrae - 90% Of Me Is You/It's Worth The Hurt (Cat) - EX - 25 hear Nailed on ‘rare groove’ clasisc that will never ever sound old. Modern Times - Stompin Crazy Legg/Happy Man (Golden World (Label Wear)) - VG+ - 40 hear Possibly the last 7"³ release on Golden World Records, this 1973 offering does exacty what it says on the label: it’ll have you Stompin’ your Crazy Legg (sic) and nodding your crazy headd and waving your crazy armss around(d) Public Company - Got To Touch Your Face/Hearts And Flowers (Rca Victor) - EX - 30 hear Possibly the Public Company’s only release this 1970 dance floor banger deserves a lot more action…builds and builds in that mad crescendo. Give it a spin if you don’t know it. Torques - Bumpin/Mercy Mercy (Lemco) - M- - 50 hear hear 1965 killer instrumental from this busy Lexington, Kentucky imprint. Dominated by a parping sax and laced with hammond this a boogaloo/r&b dream. Monster. Moorish Vanguard - Sitting In The Sunshine Of Your Love Part 1/Sitting In The Sunshine Of Your Love Part 1 (Polydor (Wol)) - M- - 60 hear Fascinating history behind this record and not least the band themselves. See the link at the end for a great article on the group. As for the music, its a really good uptempo female lead dancer from 77, featuring the vocals of Barbara Bey, that is apparently mis titled on the Polydor issue as the correct title is Sitting In The Sunset of Your Love(!) The full details of the murky origins of the Polydor issue are contained in the link but in short, Philly group The Moorish Vanguard Concert (many of whom had been with the Interpretations on Bell before converting to Islam) had entered International Recording Studios in Augusta, GA to lay down this song. At the time they were unaware that James Brown owned the studio and he just happened to rock up 20 mins after their session. After the band had cut the tracks (to later release it on a 45 on the Country Eastern imprint) they left the studio and headed out in their car, only to hear, blasting out from a JB Owned local radio station, the song they’d just recorded! Brushing it aside as a one off the band embarked on a tour, evertually arriving in Atlantic City in the summer of 77. It was there that a friend told them they’d heard their single on the radio, which the band found strange as the record had only been sold at the band’s gigs in the southern states. It became clear that James Brown had orchestrated the record’s release on Polydor (complete with incorrect title) and had even noted himself as producer! After a long and drawn out court case the band were moderately compensated though it contributed to the break up of the group. Totally fascinating. Check the link for some great pics of the group, too.https://hotpeasandbutta.com/moorish-vanguard-concert/ Michael Wycoff - Looking Up To You/Looking Up To You (Rca (Promo)) - EX - 50 hear Slick 1982 major label soul shouldn’t sound this good, right. Mr Wycoff breaks the mould with this ageless classic. Nice vinyl press too so no styrene fears here. Also anyone still waiting on the I've been promised a few more by Thursday so hold tight!
