Twoshoes Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 If it's going into room 101 I hope it takes "Northern Soul it's a Way Of Life " with it. 1
Pete S Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Do empathise with your awkwardness Winnie. The one I always find awkward and hard to read, is the hanshake that develops into a grasp of thumbs...I never really remember that happening years back..or maybe people just didnt want to bond with me ...seems to be a latter day thing...I never initiate it but feel compelled to go through with it if someone offers it..... out of politeness No that's an old one mate, I remember it from the mid 70's, it was supposed to be like a secret handshake for soul lovers 1
Winnie :-) Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 No that's an old one mate, I remember it from the mid 70's, it was supposed to be like a secret handshake for soul lovers I thought the secret greeting was the one Jock described yesterday ;) It's the one I've been doing anyway
Guest DeeJay Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 It seems strange writing this, as I've just made a comment defending persons in baggy trousers and circle skirts, but here goes anyway. The phrase makes me cringe, I won't pretend I've never said it, I'm sure I must have in the seventies, but I was a teenager. At that time I did think northern was a way of life and when I came back on the scene, I signed off with KTF occasionally, but now the phrase has transcended. It's not so much a phrase now as a catchphrase ''good game, good game'', and I really am starting to visualise Brucie using it in that dancing programme. So when someone says 'Keep the Faith' to me, am I supposed to make the little fist salute and wobble it back and forth in a show of solidarity, I'm so confused. What do the rest of you think, am I the only one who finds it cringe-worthy, do any of you still use it yourselves? What does it actually mean. Please advise, because I think it's time it went into room 101. Over to you Been meaning to ask this for ages, so this seems fairly relevant I once fancied a girl from the midlands somewhere forgotten her name but i really liked her Anyway her group introduced me to 2 things that they were into Bella Delaney (which i still like) and instead of saying keep the faith they sort of took the piss and used to wave a fist and shout "eat the cake!!" Is anyone still around that remembers this and if so can you get me the girls phone number : )
Driveller Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Is the Citations 'To Win The Race' on Ballad anything to do with the catchphrase? Oddly enough, no - Citations turned up in the mid-late 80s. I remember Jim Wensiora playing it covered up as the Magnificent Men at the 100 Club in about 1987, maybe '86. What amazed us at the time was that a record that sounded like that with a title like that had escaped everyone's attention for that long. Doubtless someone somewhere will have chanced across it in, say, 1977, but it wasn't widely known on the scene until then. There - now you Know The Facts, I bet you're glad you asked! All the best, Nick 2
