Guest Dave Turner Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Orig on Delphi which seems to be in the region of between £30-40
Guest gaz thomas Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 (edited) Orig on Delphi which seems to be in the region of between £30-40 i disagree i would ask 60 to 80 for the jubilee release the delphi will be over a 100 just like the Roy Smith 45 on that label Very good records and rare on the delphi press go find not obvious tunes, but good ones the prophets also had a tune called "talk dont bother me" on delphi which was played in the 80s probably by pat that 45 is worth collecting if you see it,, its just good fun, not woth a packet, but worth having oxford nights was popuar then they got everyone with the bootleg on that 45 no nashville stamp no argument, imo But Tezza , I reckon the tune you mentioned is the best both sides are good I have heard a couple of garage / pop things on the label its a strange label i would like to find out more about roy smith Edited September 25, 2013 by gaz thomas

Seems like a 3 O Clock in the Morning tune, chance to catch your breath before the final hours onslaught. Just listening back to some old tapes and thought 'I still haven't got this, why ?' Pretty cheap in the great sceme of things. Have to try and find a Delphi copy. Thanks for the info mate and I will check up on the others you mentioned. Tezza
Godzilla Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 the prophets also had a tune called "talk dont bother me" on delphi which was played in the 80s, probably by pat that 45 is worth collecting if you see it,, its just good fun, not woth a packet, but worth having Talk Don't Bother Me also came out on Jubilee.
Tezza Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 (edited) Did Jubilee 'buy out' Delphi then re-release their back catalogue or is Jubilee a subsidery or East/West Coast franchise ( or vise Versa ) ? Edited September 25, 2013 by Tezza
Pete S Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Did Jubilee 'buy out' Delphi then re-release their back catalogue or is Jubilee a subsidery or East/West Coast franchise ( or vise Versa ) ? Delphi just a local label release picked up by the larger Jubilee label. 1
Guest MrC Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I love ''Talk Don't Bother Me' also nice and cheap at £20-30 on Jubilee

Tiberius Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 ................................................................. ...............i would like to find out more about roy smith Sadly, there doesn't appear to be definitive biography/discography for Roy Smith although there is a fair bit of information about Roy scattered over the web. Here's some very rare, but unfortunately low fi, footage of Roy performing live - The fellow who posted it on youtube, Richard Hooper, played drums with Roy for a period, in the late 70's I believe. I had some contact with Richard and I'm sure he would be happy to talk about his experience of working with Roy to anyone who is interested.. I was also contacted by his daughter, Sabrina Jeffs, via youtube and here too I'm sure she wouldn't mind anyone getting in touch regarding her late father. She mentioned she was going to post some of Roy's music but hasn't as of yet. I'm guessing there's a lot of unreleased material somewhere, either rough demo tapes or whatever, as Roy apparently re-recorded his songs several times and Richard was telling me he'd play stuff on tape in his car. Roy was undoubtedly a great talent, both as an artist in his own right and also as a songwriter and producer. Yet another who's flame burnt bright for a while before his untimely demise. 1
Tiberius Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Delphi just a local label release picked up by the larger Jubilee label. I would add that Roy Smith - Very Strong On You was picked up by Liberty Records from the local Augusta based Delphi label.

Brilliant So this is the only video out there of Roy Smith, I expect it is. Thank you I have a copy of very strong on you on Delphi, I cant imagine why that 45 is still so under the radar expecially as the Oxford Nights did so well I think very strong it is top sound and never turns up for sale I must admit, Its the only record I have by Roy Smith I dont know of any others I wil sort the spacing out peter It looks great when you have drank a bottle of Smirnoff

Probably all of these are on youtube for starters along with lots of other stuff Also there's the Georgia Prophets material. Roy was a prolific songwriter and so there are other artists recording his songs, including many of the bands on the Delphi label which Roy was behind in some way. Here's a later song of Roy's which I've posted before and although not broadly sitting in the "soul" genre is really nice, and very poignant.
