Premium Stuff Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 (edited) Googled - just got rubbish. Crops up in lots of class Northern records. Anyone got any quality info on the origin, meaning, history, significance of "One monkey don't stop no show" please? Cheers Richard Edited September 20, 2013 by Premium Stuff
Steve S 60 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 It means one problem shouldn't bring everything to a standstill, but I don't know the origin.
boba Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 hit for the honey cone hank ballard and the midnighters had a record in '65, rivingtons in '64, joe tex in '65 maybe the common date points to a date of origin
Godzilla Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Big Maybelle - Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On / One Monkey Don't Stop No Show - Okeh 7060 from 1955 was released on both 78 and 45. I always assumed it to be a circus phrase ie one missing monkey won't stop a performance?
Guest Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Stick McGhee & His Buddies recorded it on Atlantic during 1950, released during 1951.
