Ady Croasdell Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 This always gets 'em going. Billy Watkins, Othello Robertson, Jesse Davis, Stevbe Flanagan on Era. I really wanna know who broke 'em rather than who spun them first I suppose,; both would be interesting though. Ady
Pete S Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Pretty certain Billy Watkins was Richard Searling at Wigan late 76 or early 77, dropped when Dave McCadden revealed who it actually was in Black Echoes.
Guest MrC Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Pretty certain Billy Watkins was Richard Searling at Wigan late 76 or early 77, dropped when Dave McCadden revealed who it actually was in Black Echoes. That's what I'd have said.
Pete S Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 That's what I'd have said. Can't remember who it was cover up as though, can you? I do remember Dave McCadden uncovered Billy Watkins, Joey Heatherton and Paula Durante all at the same time...to much consternation
macca Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Billy Watkins was also very big for Soul Sam at St. Ives and other venues he worked at through 1977, in spite of it being dropped at Wigan by Richard.
Guest DaveSwift Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 i don't think Othello Robertson was played much before it came out on various artists album - one with Gil Blanding - Rules amongst others Probably too slow for Wigan - great Mecca type sound for mid 70s but i don't rememner hearing it there

I NEVER HEARD IT BEFORE IT APPEARED ON THERE EITHER. Sorry about the caps lock!

Tony Smith Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Steve Flanagan = "Melvin Boyd" for GuyH Jesse Davis = "James Vanelli" for Keb Jesse Davis was being played by Butch & Dave Raistrick before Keb got hold of it! 1
Md Records Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 I must admit I always thought Jesse Davis was a Dave Raistrick discovery/spin Des
Guest Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Jesse Davis was being played by Butch & Dave Raistrick before Keb got hold of it! True, but I thought the thrust of Adys request was who really pushed it through to the masses and Keb was more active on the decks at that point?
Len Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Othello Robertson was played by Ian Levine at the Mecca 1974/75. Apparently it was played at The Pendulum in Manchester in the early 70's, I don't know by whom though. I was told the lead singer was also the lead singer of The Inticers. All the best, Len
Popular Post neckender Posted September 6, 2013 Popular Post Posted September 6, 2013 Jesse Davis was being played by Butch & Dave Raistrick before Keb got hold of it! Correct tony. Dave R. discovered it and covered it. He wasn't djing at the time so I bought it off him. At that time Keb was winding down his contribution to the Northern scene; in contrast I was djing at all the main upfront venues. It became a big 100 club spin 1 3
