Popular Post Dean Posted September 3, 2013 Popular Post Posted September 3, 2013 Apologies if I'm posting too many, but had to get this rather obvious one in . . . . . been to too many funerals over the last few years. Hard to not quote the whole song for this, and is there anyone who has been on a floor just before daybreak who thought this song wasn't just for them, and felt moved to their bones: "As I sit here looking at the street, little figures quickly moving feet, I'm just a pebble on the beach and I sit and wonder why, Little people running around never knowing why, Life is just a precious minute baby . . . . . . . " You really could just quote the whole song. Tobi Legen - Time Will Pass You By Heart rendering lyrical beatifully performed lyrics with passion and sincerity 5
Tiberius Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Having a second go at this after giving the subject of this thread some thought. I'll go with The Ethics - Think About Tomorrow.....again any verse as it's hard to pick just one. The 1st maybe, or perhaps the last.

"what good a river if it don't flow? What good a star if it don't glow? What good a dream if don't come true? What good am I baby, without you? & still drags me up & I can still be lost dancing to this wonderful proper Northern soul track. Steve J

Winnie :-) Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 As people are having a second pick We used to walk Laugh and talk, Solve the problems of the world People would pass, They would say, Perfect pair that guy and girl. Now I can't laugh without you, I'm only half without you Speaks for itself really, very moving lyrics
Winnie :-) Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I'd also think that 'Little Girl' and 'These Memories', have moved many a soul fan to tears at some time in their life, both spectacularly good records IMO
Guest MBarrett Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 It's a bit mainstream - but for me it's Marvin & Tammi - If I Could Build My Whole World Around You. Oh if I could build my whole world around you, darlin' First I'd put heaven by your side Pretty flowers would grow wherever you walk, honey And over your head would be the bluest sky Then I'd take every drop of rain And wash all your troubles away I'd have the whole world wrapped up in you darlin' And that would be all right For every time I've been smitten . . . . . . I put it up there with Burns or Byron . . . . . . . . or Shakespeare. MB
Guest Dave Turner Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 (edited) Doesn't reflect my life at all but for me this encapsulates the essence and everything I love about soul music Please somebody take your hand and slap some sense in me Open my eyes 'cause I'm too blind to see I've got this woman 'n she's messing my mind around She knows that I love her but still she's trying to put me down I know I'm just a fool, someone she can use But I can't help myself ............................................................ Mak Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 (edited) A SADNESS OF THINGS - CALVIN SCOTT For the whole damn sad world I have a sadness for things For houses with children where nobody sings For acres of Wheat fields when cupboards are bare For love being spoken and no one to care For trains that ride empty and tables for one For books seldom opened and clocks that don't run For songs soon forgotten , paths never crossed For wars that are fought and all that is lost. I have a sadness for things For Eleanor Rigby whose phone never rings Intelligent parents completely confused For words in the bible just said but not used For oil-slickened beaches and birds that can't fly Stray dogs and lost kittens , old people that cry For the tired and the weary with little to show for those who don't listen , and those who don't know..... I have a Sadness Edited September 6, 2013 by MAK 1
Guest ritchie Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 (edited) When you lose the the one you love, you know it makes you feel so sad. And everything you do, you know it turns out bad. So many, so many lips to you've tasted, but none of these erases, the kiss on your lips. the kiss that tore your world to bits and left you sad... Sure you're sad, when you lose the one you love. Buddy Smith - When You Lose The One You Love. Brilliant Tony Clarke production that just melts me every time I hear it. Edited September 6, 2013 by ritchie

Soulhawk1960 Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 We struggle here but all our love's in vain, Oh these eyes that once filled me with your beauty, now fill me with pain. Please don't have a go at me but it's a Bruce Springsteen track called I Wish I Were Blind. Get a lump in me throat the size of an apple every time I play it. I love my Soul but I love Bruce as well !!!! Right, I've got my hard hat on, let the abuse begin 1
