of to see them both at the tropicana club on the 13Th sept i have told they were very good so looking forward to it

I'm going to see them on Sunday night and looking forward to it.

Have seen Jimmy a couple of times before years ago.

I feel that if any of those singers of yesteryear are out on tour then they should be supported. Ok, they will perhaps not sound like they did, or like you want them to, but they are still happy to make the effort to entertain.

Will post a review after Sunday.

i saw them tuesday at The Stables Milton keynes a superb although small venue of about 500 seats. it was packed with people paying £25 to stand, Seating £32.50. Jimmy James who i have seen on numerous occasions was brilliant. He did a mixture of his 70s hits and 60s motown. He did a fantastic version of the chi lites Homely girl! Ive complained before that he never does A Man Like Me or This Heart of Mine although he did do Come Softly To me.Ben E King full of charisma and the audience loved him however he is 74 and is starting to look his age . His voice is not what it was . The highlight was of course Stand By Me with everyone standing and singing. Some people around me had tears in their eyes singing along with a Legend! A brilliant night which i would not have missed. i would also add that the backing band were also superb.

i would recommend anyone to go but be prepared that Ben E King is not what he was but then neither am i.

Sounds good, as you would expect it to be with two big names.

Have never heard Jimmy sing 'A Man Like Me' live, which is a shame.

I suppose expecting Ben E King to sound like he did back then is like expecting Bobby Charlton to still be a good footballer!

Will report back about Sunday's concert.

Saw the show at New Brighton last Sunday. Sell out with 800 in the theatre. Totally agree with the above.  JJ was just awesome.  BEK unfortunately had the "Martha Reeves syndrome" and is past his best but somehow you can excuse that and respect him for the legend he is.

Backing band (not the Vagabonds by the way) were also top notch 2 x brass 2 x percussion 2 x guitar 1 x keyboards. Four of them also joined in on backing vocals.

All in all a brilliant show.  Get tickets if you can.

Having seen Jimmy James and Ben E king last night, I can only echo what tobytyke and DazCymru wrote above.

The crowd was 300 odd, made up of mostly non-soulies. Having said that, they were very appreciative of both men, with many up dancing in front of the stage.

Jimmy, whom I had seen a couple of times in the past, is still a superb entertainer. Ben E King has to be given the credit he deserves for still going on the road and I spoke with him after the show and he is a really nice guy.

Also asked Jimmy why he didn't do 'A Man Like Me' and 'This Heart Of Mine' and he simply said that he often thought about doing them, but promised to do 'A Man Like Me' next time.

Hopefully there will be one.

Quick mention for the backing band who were total perfection.

As the others said. If you get the chance go.

Got a phone call over the weekend from the Towngate Theatre Basildon telling me that Ben E and JJ will not be appearing as scheduled on the 22nd Sept due to " contractual issues" but they will be appearing instead .......... tonight.

I assume contractual issues means that Captain Cock Up paid a visit.

Tonight (Monday) it is then, hope it's a decent turn out with such a late reschedule.  I understand it was originally sold out.

What a show they put on at Basildon last night - superb and a great turn out considering the last minute reschedule.

As mentioned by others Jimmy is without doubt the main man.  Having seen him some 40 years ago at many venues across the North West I wouldn't have believed he could still be this good - he was brilliant.

They had the crowd out of their seats dancing and earned numerous standing ovations which were well deserved.  For a wet Monday night it was top entertainment.
