JOE TORQUAY
Register Celebrites I Choose You Baby Vocal & Instrumental One of the highly esteemed Detroit trophies so very few can boast of owning. An automatic choice for the likes of Soul Sam etc. when he’s doing a proper-solid Northern Soul set, as this ripples with everything we love about DETROIT! Full production incorporating remorseless silky horns, constant dance rhythm all laying down a raft of sound for some glorious male vocals to soak into. Strong lead is elevated by that greatest sound a Northern Soul tune can be decorated with, the high-pitched chorus, “I choose you Baaaaaaaaaby!” is the perfect icing on this big fat uncompromising cake. DETROIT NORTHERN SOUL at it’s most-compelling! This copy is MINT in every way. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,771.00 Patience Valentine If You Don't Come (you Better Call) An immaculate PROMO of this benchmark Northern Soul R&B Monster! A dominant Sister performance as she lays down the law with her defiant style. A relentless production just pumps out pure early 60s dance rhythm that has set the Northern Soul floors alight for near two decades now. So when a MINT copy of this 1961 Los Angeles rarity comes up for sale, do not pass by - a finer copy will never come to market. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 361.00 Herb Ward Honest To Goodness C/w If You Got To Leave Me rare ORANGE STOCK copy. Before USA imports littered the streets of Britain the Northern Soul classic was discovered and first played on the scene from the 1970 UK album release “FUNKYBOTTOM CONGREGATION” Later of course the 45 became the format we would strive to own - then the RCA stock copy fanatics it the seldom witnessed STOCK copy was the ultimate goal. Today, we may cause even more interest when you hear the neglected flipside. Wow! what a tune an mighty burning piece of Northern Soul guided by the Philly genius Thom Bell. Dare I say, today, this side sounds even better than the anthem A-side we have become so used to. We predict a possible second lease of life for this impressive double hitter that would perhaps have been lovingy filed along with all those highly coveted RCA stockers. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 313.00 Earl Van Dyke And The Soul Brothers All For You C/w Too Many Fish In The Sea HOW A LEGEND WAS BORN You are witnessing the ONLY known copy of the UNISSUED 1965 USA Soul 35009. “All For You” is a massive statement to the hotshot keyboard brilliance of the man and a MOD/Northern Soul classic that carries incalculable importance for the USA Motown label collector. The history is; this acetate came to the UK along with the Motown Revue Tour and their legendary 1965 “Ready Steady Go” on which Earl Van Dyke swaggered through his instrumental repertoire. Listen to the 7” Original HITSVILLE acetate mix PBMN-0391-DH5 a cleaner richer direct cut mix that instantly catches the ear. Flipside is the AC-LG-118317 mix of “Too Many Fish In the Sea” The acetate never went back to Detroit as it should have done and was consequently forgotten. Whilst British EMI released it on Tamla Motown TMG506 and later in 1970 TMG759 to meet the Northern Soul demand created by club play and his “Six By Six” Thus a legend was born - to this day, we know of nobody who owns or has seen SOUL 35009 as a 45. If this Detroit “Hitsville” cut acetate had not taken that journey to England on a one-way-ticket in1965, the outcome, could well have been different for ghost that is - Soul 35009. JOE TORQUAY
Black And White Affair Sweet Soul Lady C/w Until The Real Thing Comes Along Dead-right for today’s funkier club atmosphere. Check out this deliciously rare double helping of Seattle, Washington state Soul. Rhythmic horns lay the path for a JB inspired lead vocalist to sway his way through this beefed up “Who’s That Lady” style arrangement. Taste change, style evolve in this ever-changing rare soul scene, this is the sound of the moment for so may DJ’s and we feel this carries gigantic potential for someone to promote what is an obvious winner. The flip will please old-school Deep Soul fans - as the tempo drops to it’s knees and the horns drag a tortured trough for a pained vocal to fall into.. Seattle is something of a “Soul Dessert” but this 45 re-ignites my belief everywhere in the USA has made a gem of a tune at some point in time. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 125.00 Edwin Starr You're My Mellow C/w My Kind Of Woman an AUTOGRAPHED copy. In the end this larger than life artist became a UK resident, as the British public warmed not only to his pulsating dance music through the decades but also his electrifying stage presence, that graced most every noteable Northern Soul club throughout Britain, establishing as Northern Soul favourite son. Before you today is a double-helping of Northern Soul from the golden era of Ric Tic and real-deal Northern. Top side is a thumping classic-style backdrop inducing stormer - flip it over for a classy mid-tempo groove oozing all the qualities that lifted Ric Tic to an idolized label during the early 70s. The reason for this being auctioned, is the genuine instantly recognizable autograph adorning the “Mellow” side. An enticing piece of NS history of this sorely missed man who sadly passed away, 10 years since. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 174.00 Vala Regan & The Valarons Fireman C/w Living In The Past It’s the Gang From New York yet again! Herb Bernstein penchant for the slick girl-sound raisdes it’s head again. Working within Bob Crewe’s creative team, Herb writes, arranges & produces both sides of this Northern Soul double-up. With assistant G. Weston (who also participated in the Laine Hill - New Voice venture) crafting two real winner Topside has been a classic spin since the embryonic days of the scene in the mid-60s uplifting, bouncy dance production saturated in the feel-good factor. Flip it over and the production takes a turn towards lush, slick and beautiful with an enchanting mid-tempo groove, that Barbara Banks also covered. Two great songs in a very elusive clothes, this 1966 UK press has two perfect labels, Mint - vinyl, really superb flawless condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 221.00 Ernie King & Los Fabulous Festivals Can I Change My Mind Phew! We are rescued from the mediocrity of Mick Hucknall’s musical-plagiarism by a 1969 New Wave SOUL from Panama Taken a listen to captivating vocal-group version of the Tyrone Davis classic! Ernie King & his Los Fabulous Festivals take Barry Despenza & Cal Wolfolk lyrics, incorporate the basics of Willie Henderson’s original production and carve out a fabulous Northern Soul 45 from a country where EVERY record is rare, let alone a weird street-level flipside sung in English. It took 33 years to build the Panama Canal, may we suggest it would take a similar amount of time to find another copy of this instant dancefloor pleaser. LOVE IT! JOE TORQUAY
Sandy Williams Pushing A Good Thing Too Far The original and dare we suggest superior version of the Barbara Lewis Atlantic classic. Bob Crewe’s habit of recording 1 or 2 release girls with fabulous voices continues with Sandy Williams; who just like Vala Regan, Laine Hill, Jessica James etc. there is very little known about the artist except Bob Crewe & Charlie Calello’s selective hearing again chooses a bewitching vocal as the vehicle for their infectious dance production. A four way project with Bob Crewe, Charlie Calello & the equally talent duo of Sandy Linzer & Denny Randell (Steinways fame) crafting yet another Northern Soul delight. Our history reveals this occasional listing for us sells with days of being made available, something of a bubbling back-burner cult item, carrying all the qualities to ignite an explosion in demand and value with DJ’s exposure. This copy in pristine! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 122.00 Astors Stax In House 8" By 10" Glossy Promo Photo Head-turning black and white group 8” by 10” of Stax promo glossy picture. THE ASTORS: Curtis Johnson,Sam Byrnes Jones, Richard Harris & Eliehue Stanback the darlings of the early 60s British All Nite R&B Club scene with their timeless Northern Soul favourite “CANDY their only single, to be issued in the UK”. Inexplicably STAX never favoured the “vocal-group” sound and only released 4 singles by this slick team. But on checking the 4 singles, you discover all the flipsides are every note as good as the “A’s”. Fully 8 recordings by these guys, and all of them absolutely superb offerings to our scene. As is this rare black & white pose of this much-loved but short lived gathering. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 25.00 Megatons Shimmy Shimmy Walk Part 1 & 2 A perfect copy! of the elusive MOD shaker! a few months from being 50 years old and not a single blemish anywher, altough the coveted original company sleeve has as expect a light wrinkle or two. Record collecting, recording dealing at it’s most satisfying! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 52.00 Herbert Hunter I Was Born To Love You C/w Push Away From The Table One of the Ultimate Northern Soul White DEMO’s to own. Ever since the legendary Cleethorpes Pier DJ “Poke” debuted this tune in his DJ set circa ‘75 it’s been a precious favourite of mine and most-everybody else’s to. One of those records it’s impossible to tire of. The knockout booming lead vocal weighing in just an ounce heavier than those persistent runaway juggernaut horns. THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL in it’s most desirable form by far! also we are proud to announce this example is in utterly flawless conditions - Mint - vinyl and two (as you can see) utterly Mint labels Sorry, this item has already been won! JOE TORQUAY
Exits Another Sundown In Watts C/w I'm So Glad A meeting of the studio-soul-greats of Los Angeles craft what is one of the finest examples of vocal-group Northern Soul cross-over it is possible to hear. Jimmy Conwell, Sir Hank Graham, Godoy Colbert purr their way through a Gene Page & Arthur Wright arrangement with the finishing touches brushed up by prolific producer Sir Hank Graham. Eye-poppin’ condition an immaculate copy - tiny pressing dimple flaw on the first turn into the deadwax otherwise this would have achieved the MINT unplayed grading! As I don’t think it had ever met a stylus before we made acquaintance. You will not find a better copy… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 610.00 Fantastic Four I Love You Madly Perhaps the hardest of all the 600 series Green & White Demo’s to track down. One of the first Ric Tic releases Motown decided to promote through their own labels. 1967 recording from the desk of D-Town’s Mike Hanks assisted by long-term lyricist partner William Garrett. Eventually finding it’s way to a British release and The Fantastic Four first UK release. It never sold a bean and the promo was only half-heartedly promoted. Little wonder it fell through the cracks at EMI with hardly a whimper and certainly no Radio exposure to speak of. The rarest 600 promo to secure? we think so, as it’s our very first PROMO copy in over 14 years of documenting all purchases and sales.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 74.00 Link to comment Social source share

Are they a blue-eyed group? In a word, yes or mixed, you used to be able to pick up copies from an ex-band member quite cheaply. George G
There was probably 100+ copies of this from the label owner back in the 1990s, along with their other 45 (just as good IMO), and the Intentions - I'm losing your love, and all the records on the label. I don't know about the history of the record in the Northern Soul scene but I knew about it in the early 1980s. In a word, yes or mixed, you used to be able to pick up copies from from ex-band member quite cheaply. Link to comment Social source share
Guest turntableterra
there are three different groups of the traditions and I know one is a white band (I think) they are the group that sang on abet out of Nashville (memory fading) and is the same as the group that sang on demon hot which apparently is the Parisians..the others recorded on artco out of arizona .apart from the members names there isn't much I else I can help you with, but hey the exits a cracker. if any one can add to this great. I have an old casino tape with Richard introducing it. I have seen someone post a photo of these guys on here before too. Link to comment Social source share
