Dayo Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 (edited) Been on and off the Forum lately so I'm not sure if this has been covered. Apologies if it has. I stumbled on a very interesting piece of work from an outfir calling themselves Casino. They're making what they call modern northern soul. You can hear a track on line. I think it's great. Pete S Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 The song is nondescript but the sample from What About The Music is good. In fact, it's What About The Music part 2
Dayo Posted June 6, 2006 Author Posted June 6, 2006 The song is nondescript but the sample from What About The Music is good. In fact, it's What About The Music part 2 Agree it's not a great song - but what a good groove! I'm just talking about it from a musical perspective - not suggesting it might fly on the scene. Though who knows? And it's obviously done with some love. There's a sample from the Gallop too isn't there? Col

Guest Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 it's good to see someone is trying to push the scene forwards (or backwards) at least pull it out of stagnation. not exactly my cup of tea but i hear worse almost every weekend at various venues.

Ive told him to live dangerously once in a while! hey ime trying!!!!! For goodness sake get him to post them I don't believe our music to be akin to holy relics and therefore sacred and untouchable. It's just music. Good, bad, indifferent... sometimes sublime. I still think the Casino thing is interesting even if the song itself is messy. Col

And your right about The Gallop sample at the end.Quite enjoyed it
Guest Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 (edited) I thought that tune was going to explode into something great but it cut off... I'm going to buy the CD because I think it might be interesting. Colin.. that Party Time Man track... I've got it by the Futures if you want that one, however, it's just as dire Edited June 9, 2006 by Soulbag

My thoughts are fair play to them for giving it a whirl. Not my cuppa T - but then it was never meant to be for old soulies.
Guest Netspeaky Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 (edited) Perhaps they should team up with these 'Little Wigan' CD A Traditional Terrace Anthem by Piez 'R' Uz ebay Item number: 882032612 Edited June 9, 2006 by Netspeaky

Dayo Posted June 12, 2006 Author Posted June 12, 2006 Seems to work and then again because it's made now it dosn't! Am I being peevish? KTF. Drew. Don't see that as peevish at all. I agree. My feeling is that it's probably not aimed at "us". The thinking might be, well if Northern Souls was being made right now, with today's technology and recording techniques, then this is one way it might sound. I just think it's interesting, but I do believe it was done with some passion and respect.
