Great stuff again Bob, Burning Flame, Priscilla Price and Impala.s deserve special mention, speaking of "I can,t see myself without you" another take on that one by Ralfi Pagan is an incredible soul record IMHO

yeah i really like that burning flame, i just got that, never heard of it before. i have no idea who originally did "i can't see me without you", it was written by JR Bailey and I would assume a pop hit (Bailey didn't record himself it until '74). It's on a main ingredient LP from '72 and Bailey wrote some other songs on the LP but Ralfi Pagan did it in '71 and I assume the Pagan version was a cover, like most of his songs. What is the original version?

My mistake Bob, The Grooms is "I deserve a little more" on Shiptown, indeed, Ralfi Pagan on Fania is the version I have heard that you rightly mention, BTW, If you don,t know The Grooms, give it a whirl, its a masterpiece IMHO

I have the grooms 45, I don't really like it. I bought it when a tiny bit of stock came out like 6-7 years ago, nobody really cared back then, now people are into it because it's super rare as a record in the field.

Myself and my mate Gaz Simon who played it to me more than 10 years ago certainly cared about it Bob, loved it then and love it now

I think the Grooms 45 is way too long and drags.

 

Someone just told me Ralfi Pagan's version of "I can't see myself without you" is the original, with JR Bailey singing background.

The Impalas also released the song on the Rite On label.  I think it was the b side to Old Man Mose.

it came out on 3 labels. it also came out red boy with the same two sides as on steady.

Yes.  I was referencing the "Old Man Mose" side as being different but admittedly this isn't clear from my post.
