This weekend - Friday/Saturday - there are 82 ( i think ) Gigs on Soul Source.

If the average attendance is say 50 people to each event then there will be  err uurrmm over 4000 people attending events this weekend.

Wow, thats a nice number.  I have probably drastically under estimated the figure at that ! There will be a lot of 'double ups' I know.

And, if going by all the feedback we read, each event is a banging night with a packed Dance Floor and busy busy then the future surely looks bright.

Some events get more posts than punters!

Each to their own Tezza,. We are going to Nottingham on Saturday and there's probably only 2 other events we might have gone to.

Enjoy yourself, John

Wouldn't it be great if there was one, central allnighter again, a focal point for the entire Northern scene a la Wigan, Stafford, obviously there's the 100 Club but that's only once a month, harder to make friendships etc when you only see people once a month.  Obviously I realise that all us old b*stards won't attend, but a nighter attracting 500 people every week would surely have to be a good thing wouldn't it?

Oh yes yes yes,

It would be great Pete, but would be under attended because most of the people who might go would be on here discussing what kind of music should be played there, then it would turn into a much hated, but very well attended oldies driven kind of nighter, causing even more discussion and chin stroking...

Okay I should have rephrased it then, we need an upfront newies venue with a smattering f decent oldies or an oldies hour like they used to have at the Casino.

Otherwise, the scene's eventually going to disappear...we'll go nowhere just recycling the past

I asked a similar question a year or 3 back, and got a resounding  NO.

It wpould have to be run by Fresh or at least not the Promoters that are on the Big Things at the moment.  Want a new or at least different format.

I'll find a venue Pete, me, you, MrC, Peter99 and a few others can Police it !!

Or perhaps we could leave it to someone else .....

Trouble is though. they pander to the whims of he who shouts loudest.  There may not be enough of the adventurous type left to sustain a 'new scene' they just want the Tesco's Bargain Bucket CD stuff. We live in a throw away society now and it would soon be last years toy.

I still think it would be worth a try though. Just need the resouces and Centralised Venue to attract from all sides.

I presume we are talking a weekly do here, at least that's how I read it...

Would it be too radical to suggest a 12 til 8.00 do, then the "feeder " clubs would still continue ..

Bizarre how many do the 9:00 till 4:00.  Buggered if you don't have a Car

The Dome and The Rocket were the last couple that really tried to do this weren't they?

The Dome didn't try to do it. It was a Friday night bash the week before 100 Club so it didn't compete with it. Maybe The Rocket tried but failed spectacularly.

Sorry, might be me. Not sure I fully understand your response.

However, we are told that anything that ends before 6.00 a.m. is not allowed to be called an Allnighter.

Those that want an early finish can stay localish, as for being buggered without a car-what's wrong with Public transport?? 8 o'clock Sunday morning is better than 6 or 4 when your after a bus, surely.

Any way-it's all theory, innit ??

No, I mean buggered if you don't have a Car at 4 in the Morning ! Yes, they call them 'Mini Allnighters !!'

We held an event at The Hollingwood in Chesterfield this Saturday gone.  So many people turned up that we had to move into the Car Park and close the Road for Safeties sake.  It was a blessing in disguise as it was so hot on the Dance floor that the AC couldn't cope. WE may have to sell tickets in advance next time to limit the numbers !!!!

We did have a do at The Hollingwood.  The Music was Fabulous and a good gathering of folk. Not exactly Kings Hall but we did OK. 50 or 60, and that was just the average age Ha ha !!
