Pete S Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 This is a phenomenal quality recording of the 7th anniversary (taped by an old friend Rich Simner) and the highlight is undoubtedly a sensational spot from Richard Searling, playing many of his then cover ups and top sounds. Although the sound quality is fantastic, you can also hear the clapping, so good stuff all round. This track listing may not be exactly right as I know I cut out a few of the Modern sounds when I originally edited the tape, I've not listened to it before posting it. I know you'll enjoy this one, it's definitely one of the best I've got. In fairness, the last 4 are Gary Rushbrooke, and the oldies before that are Keith Minshull, the Richard spot ends with the Chris Bartley cover up, he does start with a modern tune though, covering up a current release. But as you hadn't listened to it, I apologise for not categorising it better, you had no way of knowing. Edited July 31, 2013 by Pete S
Eddie Hubbard Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Rosey Jones is " All I need Is Half A Chance " , JB Moore is Marvel Love " Break That Rule " .......... 1
Barry Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Rosey Jones is " All I need Is Half A Chance " , JB Moore is Marvel Love " Break That Rule " .......... Marvell Love always batters me head - I have a fairly good memory but just cannot remember it at Wigan - was always a Rotherham record in my head.
Zed1 Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Awesome Pete..... If only some of those on todays scene would realise there was more to Station Rd than fooking Frank Wilson and The MVP's.... 3

Pete S Posted August 1, 2013 Author Posted August 1, 2013 For everyone who moaned at me for not putting that other 1980 tape up, I just found another one, better than that, almost identical track listing, I'm recording it now and will post it in an hour or two, again it is labelled 1979 but it once again has Omni on and you all say that is a 1980 release so it's gotta be 1980...fantastic sound quality on this one.
Pete S Posted August 1, 2013 Author Posted August 1, 2013 Unknown Date 1980 Here's one for all the late period Wigan / Richard fans who kept badgering me to post this tape up, it's not the same tape as I mentioned on Soul Source but it is from probably the same month and is in way better quality. See how many of those cover up names you can make out, I've listed all of them uncovered except for Chris Bartley as I don't think the real artist was ever uncovered was it? The tape was labelled 1979 but it's definitely 1980. Thanks to the original taper whoever it was. PAGES - HEARTACHE AND PAIN IKE STRONG - YOUR LOVE KEEPS ME DANCING YVONNE VERNEE - JUST LIKE YOU DID ME WILLIAM POWELL - HEARTACHE SOUVENIRS CHERYL BERDELL - GIVING IT ALL TO YOU OMNI - KEYS TO THE CITY DEADBEATS - NO SECOND CHANCE JOHN & THE WEIRDEST - CAN'T GET OVER THESE MEMORIES REUBEN HOWELL - YOU CAN'T STOP A MAN IN LOVE EDDIE DAYE - GUESS WHO LOVES YOU JUDY HUGHES - FINE FINE FINE EDDIE HOLMAN - HURT RICHARD ANTHONY - NO GOOD LAMONT CRANSTON BAND - TAKING A CHANCE DAMON FOX - PACKING UP MARVELLOUS RAY - WHIRLPOOL COURT DAVIS - TRY TO THINK JOHN & THE WEIRDEST - NO TIME KENNY WELLS - ISN'T IT JUST A SHAME LARRY HOUSTON - LET'S SPEND SOME TIME TOGETHER CHRIS BARTLEY - I GO OUT OF MY MIND https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/wigan-casino-1980-classic-richard-searling-dj-spot/ 1
Mark R Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) As you say, deffo '80 as he says Mansfield Swan Friday 7 November, which had to be 1980. Enjoyed that, and it solved a 30 yr mystery for me. I have that Richard Anthony on a (Keb) tape here, but it's cuts off early on. Now know what it is. Anyway, love hearing Pages, Berdell etc as cover ups. Dickie must have had Pages and Ike Srrong on about +8 here.....sure sign everyone was younger. ....they'd be slowed down now! LOL Thanks for posting Pete Cheers, Mark R Edited August 1, 2013 by Mark R

LOL Thanks for posting Pete Cheers, Mark R have to say that this tape does sound slightly too fast in parts - Yvonne Vernee, Omni especially. Richard Anthony is the Detroit Wheels cover up that I couldn't remember the other day

Guest Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Would you mind if I burned this to CD for the car Pete? Thought I would ask 1st.
Pete S Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 Would you mind if I burned this to CD for the car Pete? Thought I would ask 1st. Do what you like mate, copy them, give them away, use them on websites, as long as people don't copy them and sell (except me) them I'm happy for them to be distributed.
Guest Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Cheers pal...thought it only respectful to ask. I used to have lots of tapes from my old ITT candle-powered tape recorder but they get lost and taped over down the years. The brother-in-law found one of my old C120s a few years back and settled down for a good old reminisce, stuck on the headphones to hear his youngest son twanging away on his guitar for 2 hours.
Agentsmith Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 have to say that this tape does sound slightly too fast in parts - Yvonne Vernee, Omni especially. Richard Anthony is the Detroit Wheels cover up that I couldn't remember the other day wow pete....quality sound but WAAAAAAAAY too fast!!....thats the drained battery syndrome, all too familiar with cassette recorders....can i do anything on a laptop to slow it down?, then transfer it to a cd?
Agentsmith Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 get to reuben howell aka sandy linzer and yes....there it is, the legendary clapping in unison....if that dosn't make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck...rigor mortis must have set in!!
