Supercorsa Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 I was browsing Pat Brady's site when I found this: Take It Baby - The Showmen (BB) Now Pat states that this was the first release before Swan, but I'm sure somebody said on here previously that it was a boot. Anyway I can't find the old topic, so can anyone confirm if Pat's statement is correct or not, thanks.

pikeys dog Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 A bone of contention this one... 50% of People say it's a local first issue 50% of People say it's a Philly Bootleg. Personally I think they are getting mixed up with the "Itzy" label issues of "Hey Sah Loney" (Which is also on Swan as a National release)

It's not actually a boot per se - 'BB' stands for Bernie Binnick, the owner of Swan Records, and it's doubtful that he bootlegged himself (althout it's alleged that he bootlegged plenty of other stuff in the early days of Northern, ahem 'reissues'....) But the BB label didn't kick in until after Swan went under in late 1966, so I guess that doesn't make it the first issue either... TONE

Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 So that's cleared that up then! ...Possibly not - I've been doing a bit more research into this since early this morning. It actually looks like both issues might have been out simultaneously, which is really confusing - but which does add some weight to Pat's view that the BB is the original, if it crept out a copule of weeks earlier than the Swan, say... There was one other Swan 45 that also came out on BB - The Buena Vistas "Sunset"/"Boss Sauce" (Swan 4277/BB 4001 - a number that was used twice, confusingly). All in all, counting the two 4001's there were 16 records on BB, the most valuable of which (according to J. M.) is the Soul Set's "Pin The Tail On the Donkey" (# 4006) at seventy five quid. Either way, one thing that doesn''t change is that the BB release is not a boot.. TONE
Guest Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 So that's cleared that up then! Ian, always thought it was a boot mate so shows I don't know much. What I do want to know tho' is how you linked all those quotes together & have you got your shift sorted for the 16th? Dave
Richard Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 I've had both BB and Swan issue copies and have to say the Swan copy sounds far better produced than the BB. I've now got a Swan demo so I'm more than happy to stick with that
Guest Simon Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 I've got a BB copy & was informed it was the local issue off the dealer i bought it from. Let's also not forget the great flip 'In paradise', top tune imho. Simon

Dave The annoying thing is, one night some chap had a swan copy for sale (for a tenner) at Solid Hit. I ummed and arrhed about getting it as I've got the BB copy and left it in the sales box. Ten minutes later I changed my mind went back to buy it and found it had been sold! :fool: Dave sent you a PM about 16th.
