Steve G Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Joking aside the vid was ok just people enjoying themselves nothing wrong with that . What does bother me though is the impresion that people get of the scene , its a case of he who shouts loudest gets heard . Go on youtube type in Northern soul and see what you get Duffy videos , John Newman , Paul O, Grady , Sharon Finch a bunch of people dancing outside a theatre its not good and not representative of what I consider to be the NS scene to be . The baggie wearing fame whores and publicity seekers have done the scene they claim to respect and love irrepairable damage as far as I,m concerned . Right on brother , Keep the faith yeah right Yeah agreed, it was supposed to be underground, "This thing of ours" etc. Completely wrecked by the commercialists and bandwagoon jumpers. These days I just say I'm into rare soul - eventually the folk at work stopped using the term "northern" after I'd bitten their heads off a few times.. 3
Mustang Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 (edited) Love everything about this video, that's all i need to say. Edited July 31, 2013 by Wigan Dancer 3

I've never once felt embarrassed by this, not once - I sometimes wonder what some of you actually think 'this' is all about!? 1
Mark R Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I do find the uniform a little embarrasing Barry to be honest...........not a good look at all. It's equivalent of an Elvis convention or the like, and that's cringeworthy I'm afraid, though I realise it's not actually doing others any harm. I had quite a few pairs of Spencers etc, but as it was the early 80's I had pegs & zoots, not the "40's" as they were known (at least around here). But if I were on the current (NS) scene I wouldn't wear them now, despite them looking far less ridiculous in the current times than wearing mega-flares does. I had the bag with the beer towels too, but I was a teenager......again it's not something I would do now. Here's a laff for you.......I've got 'em on here, not that it's easy to tell as I'm in full flow (or I'd fell over!)................Warrington Parr Hall 5 July 1986.........white belt the lot! LOL Cheers, Mark R 1
Barry Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 ...while I'm waiting for an answer I'll tell you what does embarrass me, some of the 'this scene of ours' smug bobbins that gets talked about on here...there's so much stuff spouted on here that appears to be said simply to garner some form of affirmation from others There! 3

LOL Mark Warrington 5 July 86 3.jpg Cheers, Mark R I'm not talking about 'uniforms' or anything else that anyone else has ever done or wore on this scene Mark - I'm talking about 'my' scene as this is what this is to me. I'm talking about how I see how this scene has developed me as a person, it's not done me one bit of harm - and made me fairly un-shockable in life too haha. If ever at one point a bloke in daft pants changes your view on this scene - then, sorry, you need to get a grip. 1
Barry Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 ...and when I think of the Parr Hall - I don't think of big pants 1
Chalky Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Just as well we don't all wear Shott's attire - the scene would be awash with fez's, ducks and the like and a cabbage
good angel Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 We are only here for a short weekend so make the most of it, dress as you wish and enjoy life. Atb, Kev. 1
Chalky Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 We are only here for a short weekend so make the most of it, dress as you wish and enjoy life. Atb, Kev. It isn't always about us in the here and now, it is the legacy you leave behind for others to carry forward. I'm afraid I have to agree with Mark S, a lot of damage has been done and it is getting to the point where it is getting beyond repair. Surely folk can't keep on listening to the same records year after year? Did they go to a night club and hear the same top forty week after week, month after month, year after year whilst they had their 20 year sabbatical away from the scene they thought had died? They wouldn't have dreamed about it. Even the records that drip feed down from the proper all-nighter scene will dry up as many are getting totally disillusioned with it all and moving on to other things. If they want to dress in ridiculous clothes, some of the worst fashion items ever seen that is up to them, but sometime soon promoters are going to have to take a look at the bigger picture and introduce different DJ's and different records. There are thousands out there totally ignored, even from the era they claim to represent. 3
Wiggyflat Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) It is funny that in the eighties and nineties people didn't wear the revivalist clothes. There's all sorts now...the baggy men and circle skirt women...the rocknroll Hawaiian shirt keb darge look...the Alan Patridge style...the mod look...but nobody in pegs and karate slippers. These youngsters need to get ahead and get that eighties look.Love Stoke and I am one of the complainers about hearing the same old sounds....if o get bored I just go into that other room. It's the same on the scooter scene...blokes with new parkas with brand new 79 patches....bouncy castles, tribute bands, barbecues and bootlegs. There was a time on runs you could hear passionate deejays playing the current biggies.I will leave the last word to Randy Cozens from.June 1978.
