Discogs Or Gemm?

I think this is in the right place.

 

Anyone use Discogs or Gemm to sell or buy stuff? Any preference?

 

I've been using Discogs a fair bit recently to buy stuff. Just joined Gemm and they appear to have lots more users and lots more stuff for sale.

 

Any views?

I've bought a fair bit from both, mainly LP's though. Prices can vary widely so I always check both, but must say I've probably had more stuff from Discogs Peter.

Use to use gemm alot. Got loads of bargains off there but not too much these days never had a problem

Discogs by a mile - the prices on Gemm seem substantially more expensive for some of the stuff I've looked for in the past. If you want European releases I find CdandLP to be good as well. The only other resource online I would really use is Musicstack - but it's a bit hit and miss and doesn't have as much soul stuff as Discogs would.

Just to add to concensus; I used to use Gemm, now use Discogs.

I used to find the charges and prices on Gemm were a bit too much. Discogs is fine but wait for the invoice before paying.

Wish I had read what you said about waiting for invoice from Discogs had I thought I had paid for a record a week ago but received the invoice today just hope seller has patience ?

I made a mistake too first time I bought from there. Made the payment before the shipping had been added and received a right snotty email from the selller - something like "Yeah, I do shipping for free you mug". No need for that I thought - so I told him to stick it!

As a buyer I've used Gemm more than Discogs - but usually for cheapies - I find it user friendly to purchase a record - find it, pay and all done - no messing about.

I would say however that when you have an account, the account info you can look at for historical purchases, ratings, current purchases etc is all a bit of a dogs breakfast.

I like/use Musicstack and Discogs (generally nice n quick on the ipad but should really be listening when wife is talking to me! lol). Actually prefer buying from established members on here where poss and where prices look okay, also the occasional open box or two at soul nites. Rarely use eBay these days.

Used to use Netsounds a lot as well as Gemm and compare best buys on both - netsounds been taken over by Musicstack now and a bit hit and miss for me - will try Discogs as well - thanks for that!

Discogs seems to have some steals on lesser known records. Ive got some great deal off of sellers. It is also a huge resource for finding information of releases. Although there are holes in their discographies. I have never used gemm. But I am interested in hearing more feedback on the site.

Discogs never seems to have the stuff I want. Gemm is probably a tad more expensive but has more obscure stuff. Also it annoys me that Discogs lists things that aren't in stock, whereas on Gemm they are actually available. Bought some 12" from discogs, but most 60s 45s from Gemm.
