A short-lived 10 only release label, that left a lasting legacy to Northern Soul collectors as every release is considered essential rare Soul collecting.

Jerry Herring & Ed Townsend the driving creative forces behind the label along with Gloria Toote crafted some fine sessions to seek. But this one stands head and shoulders above the rest, as not only incredibly rare but also offering not one but two sides of blinding vocal-group Northern Soul.

The side we lead with is quintessential upbeat street-level Northern that has for decades enjoyed a cult following with it’s irresistible mix of upbeat dance soul occasional pulling from a previous doo-wop era with the Bassist injecting sparse “Doo-Wah’s” after his initial ear catching intro.

It’s that man again Monk Higgins with his deafening signature horns intro he so often adopted. Even though this was Monk’s way, on this recording he’s goes another yard when delivering the message with this pounder!

Wow, the man is able to mix a thunderous brass, with every word of the lead singer and the harmony chorus loud and clear, producing what is one of the most-powerful dance experience you could ever wish to collide with.

Mid-70s it enjoyed brief Cleethorpes Pier success only to lay forgotten and unloved until more recently some intrepid DJ gave it a long overdue revival. Taking off big and sounding miles better than it did back in the 70s.

This is NORTHERN SOUL at it’s utmost-potent - like nearly all Monk Higgins creations are!

Before Jerry Crutchfield became a prolific writer/producer of Country and Western music, he was involved in many great Soul & Northern Soul. So this mid-60’s session with the vocal group he recorded onto Coral,an association that provided the Northern Soul collector with two highly rated tunes and flip-sides to match.

Jerry Crutchfield at the controls, Billy Lockeridge on lead vocals, the chemistry works beautifully.

This great double-hitter was issued on USA Monza and is in my humble opinion an overlooked NS goodie as BOTH sides give up strong vocal group performances, to own it on UK SUE is it’s ultimate prize! Rare in the extreme and the condition is two light sleeve brushes away from perfect.
