Anyone here got copies of rare old soul show posters.

In our first house (after I married), I made the mistake of pasting up some posters from the Mojo Club (Sheffield) that I had 'liberated' at a few of the club's final live act shows back in the 60's. I put them up inside a built-in wardrobe in our bedroom but of course, when we sold the house, I had to leave the posters behind.

In addition to UK club posters, there are also 100's of great US soul show posters, many printed up by the likes of Globe Posters in Baltimore back then. Venues would commission such posters but many times the acts themselves would have 'standard' posters made up, justleaving the actual venue details off. When they were to it a town for a live show, these posters (with the venue / date details hand writtenin, would be fly-posted around the area.

Then, when the psychedelic era kicked in, loads of arty looking posters were produced, some being for soul acts such as Sly & the Family Stone & the Parliaments.

So anyone got paper or electronic copies of really interesting soul act posters from back in the day?

I'll post one up for a show that never actually took place ..... on December 9th 1967 Otis Redding was in Cleveland for a live show and a TV appearance ........... see here ..........   https://rockhall.com/blog/post/7045_otis-reddings-last-day-in-Cleveland/

Late that night, Otis & some members of his band boarded a plane to head for their next engagement at the Factory Club in Madison. They never made it as the plane came down in a lake near their destination.

The posters for that show had been produced & hung around town though.

Here is a nice rarity for all you fine people out there, Got this in Australia 1999 from a well known record fair promoter and collector of black music.

It was originally owned by a chap called Chris Dell who was a promoter of live acts in sydney, He attended the show around early 80's with a view to booking them to perform in Australia, the poster is signed by most of the acts and support crew.

Unfortunally the show in Aus was never to happen as Chris died from cancer shortly after

I've got quite a few original pages from Trade magazines that are

promoting new record releases rather than live acts if they are of interest to you.

Kegy (!?!?!), start a new thread & get em posted up.

I have quite a lot as well that I can add in.

When they include a picture of the artist, some can be quite enlightening (lots of white singers doing soul tracks back in the 60's when it was that sound that was selling).

Sam & Dave

Yep, those two are the duo that famously never talked to each other for years unless they were in public.

It's also rumoured that Dave tried to get rid of his kid by leaving him at a bar & then tried to leave the country without his passport.

The guy's quite a plonka but then as he used to go riding with the 'Ginger Winger from News Int' I guess you already realised that !!!

BTW, be careful as there was a 'FAKE' version of Sam & Dave doing gigs at one time ...........

Don't know if this guy ever amounted to much (musically) ......

... he maybe managed to carve out a music career for himself ....

This show he did in Texas was around 55 years ago !!!!

Mind you, since then the thrill is gone (& it's gone for good) ...

In fact I believe at one time there were two Sam & Dave gigging. Sam & Dave on the east Coast and Sam & Dave on the west coast

The animosity is still going ( or was until about 3 years ago)

Oh the painful memory, I had a signed poster from Wilson Pickets gig in Liverpool somewhere around the late 70' also signed by Phillip Mitchell. The only place my wife at the time would it and a few others displayed was on the wall going down the cellar sreps. Needles to say when we sold the cottage they were forgotten about until in bed the first night in our new house I jumped up shouting "mi fffing posters.Back to the cottage next day and you guessed it, torn down and burnt, bugger!

Somewhere on top of the wardrobe I've got a cinema sized poster from Jackie Wilson's appearance at the Rainbow Theatre in Finsbury Park, London, early 70's...personally signed as well as we crashed his dressing room! :-)

No posters but have some unpublished film negative of Barbara McNair perfoming live at some US politicians rally from the 60's, should really get them developed.

Here a couple more. One is a one off concert for a well know Detroit DJ George White. The other not a poster strictly speaking, but a news paper add for The Bitter & Sweet, but it's possible this is the closest they came to a poster.......
