Ok Guys, here we have the Top 8 nominations from the 3 Semi - Finals.  Only one vote per person...It's gonna be a close run thing judging by the earlier rounds.  Glad to see HB Harnum get a good percentage just missing out on a final place.

Who gets your vote?

Regards,

Dave

With only these choices, I had to go with HDH.  Had I my own choice, I'd have chosen Stevenson-Hunter.  Curtis Mayfield was great, but he only got label credit as producer for his Curtom/Mayfield and later work.  Most of what I like of his was his ABC work, where he was at least as important in his sessions as the listed "producer" Eddie Thomas (and arranger Johnny Pate). Van McCoy would be up near the top, as well.

I've always thought of HDH as being fantastic songwriters rather than producers. The productions on their songs doesn't seem to be any different from songs written by otherss at Motown.

Yes, but matching up the songs to the best-suited artists, and deciding upon the best arrangements or arrangers and musicians are all part of the highest-level production responsibilities.  So, I think they did a very good job of producing, as well as songwriting.

With this being a soul music forum I'm surprised more people aren't voting

Good one Dave

Because most people are too busy going through their favourite records to see who produced them

OK Guys,

Clear leaders now emerging.  There's just no way to include every single worthy producer(s) down to an infinite level. Those that have followed the polls over the past few weeks will realise that Van McCoy was listed and, some would say surprisingly,  didn't make the cut as did a few others.

I'm happy that the most popular producer(s) in relation to 'our' music have been featured along the way.

Will let this run for another week as votes are building up, after all it's only a straw poll for fun's sake.

Thanks to everyone who's voted so far....

Regards,

Dave

It was a close call for me, but had to plump for Gamble - Huff in the end.

Gamble and Huff for me as well, Re-HDH really should win it if only for individual tracks after they left Motown- Sterling Harrison and Thelma Houston spring to mind

All great though

Northern Soul is an acquired taste.  Northern Soul is excellence songs and singers and productions that did not afford the light of day but had the ear of folks far, far away.

Lorraine

Yes, Lorraine ..........  a story I tell to my grandkids ...........

Once upon a time, in a land far far away, they made Northern soul music. Only nobody knew it was Northern Soul until Wigan Casino discovered it. And then they all lived happily ever after.   :D  :D

That is the full NS story, nuff said.

Ok Guys,

10 days in and the votes are still trickling in so will leave this to run for another 4 days. Pied Piper closing in on 2nd place with Gamble and Huff.

Dave

Only 1 vote currently separating 2nd and 3rd!  Will let run another couple of days in case that gap widens.

Regards,

Dave

Dave, have you fallen for Lorraines lobbying, because it sure looks like you're gonna keep this running until pied piper get that 2nd spot!

Whoo Hoo!:lol:    Only 25 more votes and Pied Piper will secure the second place throne!  I love Motown and I love Gamble & Huff, however, Mr. C, this is a family affair.  You know that Pied Piper belongs to Northern Soul, you and others created us, them.  Eddie Parker (it's name dropping time) has just learn how to receive e-mails and is working on how to send them as we speak, poor baby.  To know that he, y o u r  Eddie Parker, battling for second place makes me nervous :sweatingbullets:

It does my heart good that we Pied Piper is tied for second place and I thank the late comers for that, but there are more Pied Pipers out there.  Make Eddie Parker proud!  Cast your vote for Pied Piper now please.

Can't imagine technophobe Eddie Parker getting to grips with E-mail! I bet that's a sight worth seeing!

You can close it now Dave.  I've changed my vote from Bridges, Knight & Eaton (swayed by that fantastic B.O.S. night in Coventry) to the thoroughly deserving Pied Piper team.

Missed all this so bear with me...did the Harthon guys get a shout?

They made the 'semi final' Neil.  the only votes now are for the 8 finalists. It's a kinda 'knockout' straw poll.

Pied Piper now running in second place.....can they stay there?

Remember Sharon Scott, The Hesitations, The Metros, and Mike & Ray?  They are all counting on you to take your vote from Ashford & Simpson, Whitfield-Strong and George Kerr.  All wonderful producers in their own right, but not competing for a strong second place slot.

Pied Piper needs 20 more votes to secure second place.  Before you know it, this poll will be over and a lot of people are counting on me to bring it home.  This is a tough job.  Pied Piper needs your vote.  Thanks Kev, Big Gordy and Premium Stuff.  I feel like I Can't Hold On, but I must carry on to the finish. :boxing:   Pied Piper must prevail!  I must not give up! :dash2:  But What Can I Do?

Come on folks we can still do this for Lorraine and Pied Piper, just needs a few of you to delete your vote and vote again for Pied Piper.

Richard

This is daft, it's just a poll for fun, there's no prize, why not just cancel the poll if it's going to be fixed?

Thanks Des, Toad, Chalky, Richard and Back Street Blue!

Pete S., you say there is "no prize."  You are incorrect.  The prize is the PRIDE.    I represent Pied Piper and this little poll is making me and the other artists so proud.  We artists at Pied Piper did not find fame or fortune but you found us and I/we could not be happier.

Pete S., I too enjoy the favors of Popcorn and Tony, however, they are not in this poll.  And this is fun, nor is it fixed.  Folks are changing their votes because it is the right thing to do.  Pied Piper is Northern Soul and proud of it!  The other wonderful producers cannot vie or win second place, so you might as well make your vote really count!

You all know how I love you and love representing Northern Soul.  Sooo, Mr. Pete S., don't you take the fun out of it and give Pied Piper your vote!  Just fifteen more votes to go and this will all be over.  Pied Piper needs ten votes to truly secure and hang in second place.

Pete S., Tell Me Your Mine and give me Pied Piper your vote!

Lorraine - it's closer than that now - Pied Piper has 44 votes and Holland-Dozier-Holland has 49 votes.

Pied Piper needs only 6 votes to take first place

Go Pied Piper  :boxing:

:shhh: I know sweet Richard, I was trying to stay under the radar count to go over the top!  Some folks are not counting!

Depends on your taste in music. As this is a site biased towards Northern/Rare Soul (only my opinion) there should be two or three short priced favourites.

However, I bet if this poll was in Japan, George Kerr would be odds on. Anyway here goes...

Posted (edited)

OK.  If you think that HD&H represents and personifies explicitly what is Northern Soul, so be it.  While we Pied Piper artists pride ourselves in having our own corner of the world with you all and HD&H is international...it's okay.  We at Pied Piper will carry the second place banner proudly, cause it ain't bad coming in behind HD&H, believe me.  There were some heavy contenders in the final eight and Pied Piper did extremely well.

This has been fun.  I thank those who gave and switched their votes.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the lobbying and I hope we can swing the last nine votes!  You all know I love the music of HD&H along with the rest   of   the   world.  The next time you play or hear Eddie Parker's, Love You Baby or I'm Gone that put Pied Piper smack in the heart of Northern Soul, what are your feet and your finger poppin' telling you?  It's saying this is Northern Soul baby!:D   However, if you know in your heart and think HD&H's music embodies the Northern Soul spirit and essence...so shall it be.

I'm off to the Detroit Bankrupt forum now, my job is done here.  Thank you all again for your votes and thank you for putting up with me!

Lorraine,

Artist, Writer and representative of Pied Piper and Northern Soul

and Lobbiest to Favorite Producers Poll and hope you give us

Pied Piper the last nine votes! Whew!

4 more votes allowed before the closure of what is obviously the most important poll in the history of soul music since Keeraaang's 1978 poll!

After a week of perfectly permissible lobbying, Pied Piper Productions are a short head in front of Holland Dozier and Holland.

In the words of a well know animator....ANYTHING can happen in the next half-hour. :wicked:

Tell Me Your Mine v Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart

I'm Gone v Something About You

I'm Not Built That Way v One Way Out

Your last shout peeps....

Yes Ady.

I'm so overwhelmed at the moment.    I'm composing the acceptance speech for tomorrow.  This was a lot of fun though.
