Guest sharmo 1 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Hi there couple of questions chaps firstly I'm trying to find out who did a 70's soul version of no man is an island (sounds like Curtis Mayfield) and what's the value of green onions by (I think) Buddy ace regards S.
Guest Dave Turner Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 (edited) Lots of folks have done it but the Mayfield similarity would most likely be Van Dykes on Hue and Mala 1965 though Edited July 1, 2013 by Dave Turner
Guest sharmo 1 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Dennis brown but i guess you knew that Hi there Tim thank you but it's a soul version real soulful track from around 70/71 the acetate is uncredited and is Jamaican although no studio detaila regards S.

Guest sharmo 1 Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Six versions all in one clip here Simon Hi there Pete no sorry non of these either thanks anyway .S.
Roburt Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 (edited) As every fan of Jamaican made music knows, Curtis Mayfield & the Impressions were viewed as being GODS by the majority of reggae singers / musicians. Too many CM song reggae cover versions to even try to list them all. As the Van Dykes track had such an Impressions feel to it, no doubt some aspiring Kingston singer (or their producer) thought it would be a great idea to do a cover of the song. If Pete S can't come up with an issued version of the song, I guess it never did escape on anything other than an acetate (probably an exclusive made for a sound system that was not taken any further back in the day).
