Sample This - The Story Of The Incredible Bongo Band

Sample This - The Story Of The Incredible Bongo Band magazine cover

Hey everyone, I'm hoping some of you may find this interesting. I was invited by the director to the U.K. Premiere of a film called "Sample This" - the story of the Incredible Bongo Band at the B.F.I. last Friday.

Anyway, I caught up with the writer & director (Dan Forrer) for an interview about the film.

You can check out what he had to say here: http://gazfunk.wordpress.com/2013/06/26/the-incredible-bongo-band-sharp-nine/

Interesting stuff Gaz.

I actually remember Bongo Rock being played on the radio in 72-73, it must have been on Radio Luxemburg though I would have thought, I often get it mixed up with another record from the same time called "Dan The Banjo Man" by, er, Dan The Banjo Man, which was out around the same time and also got played a lot on Luxemburg.

Hi Pete - that would've been cool hearing that on the radio when it came out, I'm sure there wasn't much around at that time with that sound. The "band" who were the Incredible Bongo Band actually played the music on loads of other artists of the 60s like The Byrds, The Monkees and even The Beach Boys!! They were amongst the best musicians in the world at the time, plus they had King Errison  , just a shame no-one knew who they were....

He was indeed - became friends with Sean Connery and that opened doors for him to perform & eventually move to the U.S.
