Check the Ace Records website, they are making downloads available of some CDs these days.

Thanks for the reply just checked and it's not there, but didn't know they were doing mp3s so that's a positive

TKOs, Garland Green, Mary Love, Peggy Woods, Wally Cox, Lorraine Chandler, M&Ms & The Peanuts, Devonnes, Milton Bennett, Hytones & Jackie Day should be available from the Ace site on download. While you're there buy the Pied Piper CD.

Why not buy the CD, rip it then throw it away or give to someone?

If you want to do it legally, then if you sell or give away the CD, the ripped mp3's that remain in your possesion become illegal copies as they are classed as "back-ups" to your CD. There has been heated debate on this and the re-sale of legally purchased mp3's

Just to add a bit more to this debate. How many people are aware of Amazon's Autorip programme / plan, scheme / thingy.

Basically, if you buy a CD from them, they will also give you a digital copy held in your account on the Amazon Autorip Cloud. It works as well. I bought a couple of CDs from them last week, and before the CDs arrived at my house the digital copies were available to me in Autorip, so I could listen to them on my PC and my phone, before the CDs even arrived !

I honestly don't know. I would guess not, because they don't have a digital version for sale. When I looked at it, it downloaded some of the CDs I've bought over the years, going back to 2001. Not everything obviously, but that may well be because there aren't digital versions available, but there were quite a few albums.

It gets worse, you know it would be so much easier to illegally down load this then to buy it, I only wanted to pay some well earned dues to the artists and writers, I am gonna buy the cd and rip it but to then say if I give the cd away makes the mp3s illegal is crazy it's like saying am only hireing the music, no wonder illegal downloads are everywhere

Presumably that wouldn't work on this though Dave as we don't have a download version?

So do you have to extra to get digital rights? As you have done it for the pied piper release don't see why not on all your releases I know where a vinyl based scene but surly you missing out on sales by not having your music on iTunes etc and believe me there are illegal copy's out there on the sharing sites

I wouldn't worry too much Miff, I think this is a legal technicality. Nobody's going to break down your door to see if you still have the CD or to ever check up on it.

Not always extra, it's just that some of our deals are pre-digital age and to change them the licensors sometimes want an extra advance when sales of downloads wouldn't warrant it. Also the companies that do their own don't always like allowing other companies to do theirs too. It's complex and something that will ease up over time and practice I'm sure.

It's a real dilemma this one - OK buy it, rip it then break it up into really small pieces an bury it in the garden.

The first 100 Club anniversary single was issued in 1984, not 1979 (so was actually the 5th Anniversary single), and was "Hey Stoney Face" - Mary Love / "It's Been So Long" - The Ikettes / "The Wallflower" - Etta James" (6T 1)

Yes Gene, but the CD that Miff is talking about is actually called 'The 100 Club Anniversary Singles. 6Ts 1979-2009'.
