JOE TORQUAY Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Cavaliers Do What I Want C/w Tighten Up SHRINE TIME! Simply one of the very hardest to acquire! Rare in the extreme with less than 4 in known collections and none in condition to be describe better than vg+ This copy has you can see has light ridge wear to the label but no writing or tears. Vinyl has surface marks but plays well, listen to the two sound-files lifted directly off this disc. So listen to the familiar gathering of Keni Lewis, Harry Bass, Carl Kidd & Dale Warren craft TWO insanely potent vocal group dance tunes. With both sides offering upbeat Northern Soul on the world’s most collectable label - all you need to consider is when being confronted with an artifact of this calibre, is when if ever will you see another one, as this is without question Rare Soul Collecting at it’s most demanding. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 6,995.00 Jaggers No Time For You C/w Whispers Audio Recordings, Cleveland, Ohio covering TWO unissued takes on two Northern Soul songs, that became a huge exclusive play for Guy Hennigan in the early 80s, for some reason covered/up as Phil Terrell - “Long Time Girl”. Check out this aspiring soul band The Jaggers serve you with a killer take on Dan Henderson’s San Antonio composition. Such a great song, as well as The Commands, the O’Jays covered it for it also. It became not only a huge tune Northern Soul favourite, but a Carolinas Beach Music and The Pittsburgh scene too. This is the first time this mysterious and unique acetate has come to market in all of 30 years; with the added bonus of a strong version of Jackie Wilson’s “Whispers” on the flipside, we’d advise this is not an opportunity to miss… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 699.00 Soul Clinic So Sharp C/w No One Loves Me Anymore RARE 1968 version of sadly murdered Arlester Christian’s funk groove that Dyke & the Blazers first recorded. This Baltimore conceived session on the highly regarded Bay Sound label, is a mighty take, delivering potent late 60s FUNK driven by a multitude of horns prompting a screaming JB style lead vocal. But this 45 has much more to offer, when you flip it over The Soul Clinic serve you with more big-horns, this time melted down to an atmospheric compliment to a whirling hammond, as the arrangement provides the raft for a fine lead vocal to plead his sad position. A pace above Deep Soul, this tune fits nicely into early-doors Northern Soul shuffler or ideally ready for someone Soul Radio Show bragging rights..as most everyone has missed hearing this hidden gem. Two strong sides, one very elusive disc. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 100.00 Judy Street What Some records will last longer than our lifetimes, to be documented firmly into history as one of the classic sounds of the music phenomena that was Northern Soul. Before you today is a Wigan Casino hymn that will still be considered as one of the most enduring classics of the scene long after we’re all gone. You cannot hear this record and not instantly think of Wigan Casino or the 1977 “This England” TV documentary covering this iconic Club at it’s height. So if your gonna collect the important NS classic, try to acquire them in the finest condition possible. We are pleased today to say this copy has come directly from California, a file copy that appears to have been unplayed. In 2013 where are you gonna find a perfect copy of this 47 year old classic? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 484.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Twisted Wheel Mail Shot January 13th. 1970 Members Mail Shot Northern Soul Time capsule material! TWISTED WHEEL members mail shot. A piece of Northern Soul history in perfect condition. Ready for framing or filing away in your poly folders for future prosperity. This package is in the same condition at the day it was mail in Manchester January 13th. 1970. We think the 3 pics say much more than we ever could. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 104.00 Nancy Ames I Don't Want To Talk About It First played by Colin Curtis at the Blackpool Mecca after Leicestershire vinyl-sleuth Chris “George Blackwell” Frost took his discovery up the M6. This igniting a massive hunt of Record Shops, Market Stalls and junk shops nationwide, but hardly a copy was found over the next decades as this 1966 UK release is a genuine serious British rarity. Not reviewed by “Home Of The Blues” or any other “soul” fanzine of the era, obscured on a flipside and missed by all. Only the Record Shops that ordered everything off the Friday release sheets would have it. And I do know one crate- digging NS vinyl-pioneer actually got a copy from Ainley’s Records of Leicester the Monday after it debuted at the Mecca. Because the Blackpool Mecca play copy was astonishingly the English release!! This recording did however reach the heights of Northern Soul classic status on the back of the steady trickle of the USA Epic coming into the country. To this day, this Rose Marie McCoy & Hal Miller collaboration on 1966 UK release copy is ridiculously RARE, holding a near mint copy after many, many baron years - has actually given me an urge to collect British Northern Soul again, there is an indefinable magic of having records of this calibre in your presence. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 166.00 Danny Owens You're A Little Too Late Currently one of the most-wanted R&B Northern Soul dancers on the circuit. A totally infectious New Orleans dancer written by the artist himself - it’s far cry from his Manhattan recording, but you will find this earlier 45 trigger a frantic dancefloor reaction as it’s addictive qualities are getting more and more dancers hooked. This copy is a beautiful WHITE PROMO inside it’s company sleeve with two flaw free labels and neat tidy vinyl. Do not pass this tune by, it is growing in value as you read. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 387.00 Soul Communicators Those Lonely Nights C/w Please Don't Go MINT you will not locate a finer copy, perhaps ever! comes with it’s original “birth” sleeve (see scan background). Chuck Corby Pittsburgh’s greatest living soul-legend with his finest recording and a long standing classic within the Northern Soul circuit for decades. So much so it is most-difficult to find a copy which hasn’t endured the rigors of several owner DJ’s and constant stylus encounters. This copy is SO MINT it still retains it’s original birth sleeve, and most likely was UNPLAYED until it’s listing! We repeat, you will not locate a finer copy… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 768.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Kim Weston A Little More Love C/w Go Ahead And Laugh Kim’s debut British single released after her stunning performance singing it live on Ready, Steady, Go. Too make this 45 even more desirable USA Motown immediately withdrew it’s TAMLA 54106 replacing it with “I’m Still Loving You” 4 releases later, making TAMLA 54106 one of the very rarest 45s. This UK ONLY offing of what is a truly gorgeous example of the sound is in impeccable Mint - /Mint - condition; you could not hope to see a finer one. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 121.00 Irma Thomas Time Is On My Side C/w Anyone Who Knows What Love Is (will Understand) Starting life as a B-side but rising up as a New Orleans Soul Hymn, covered by the likes of The Rolling Stones who issued the 45 in the USA but not England. Over the years adverts, Movies and TV have elevated this record to the unusual status of “Never A Hit” but everyone has heard of it. Norman Meade & Jimmy Norman’s lyrics carry a message will all can relate to, and no artist delivers the message better than the Queen Of New Orleans! To own this timeless piece as the rare Red & White UK DEMO in flawless condition - will be most satisfying. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 68.00 Jackie Edwards Put Your Tears Away The genius that was Jackie Edwards! Jackie was one of the great contributor to the Britain 60s music scene and ultimately both the Soul & Reggae scene were so much richer for this man’s writing and singing talents. Not to mention him gifting Spencer Davis Group with some of their biggest hits. This elusive UK album displays Wilfred Jackie Edwards gifts perfectly. Check out the sound-file samples which includes his great Northern Soul offering “I Feel So Bad” .. but even then you’ll be left wondering two things. why wasn’t “Put You Tears Away” released as a single in the UK and why hasn’t “Put Your Tears Away” been blasted out from every Northern Soul turntable in the land for the last 40 years. In Britain a LP track only and an entirely exhilarating example of Jamaican inspired Soul as are the all the other tracks. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 99.00 Miracles The Fabulous 1964 UK press is eye popping condition. Vinyl is Mint -, labels are Mint - front cover is strong clean EX+ just a very light crease bottom left (see scan) Back Cover is has a tiny name top left. 5 preferred track have been starred by the previous owner. This is one highly cherished near 50 year old. Other than that discreet biro notes this copy is a total beauty! Includes the only British vinyl outing for the in-demand “If Your Mother Only Knew” Check out the impressive soundfile and ponder over the even more impressive condition! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 111.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Oracles I Ain't Got Time C/w Love In My Heart A twofold helping of Los Angeles vocal-group Northern Soul from the pen of Bobby Mandolph, the man who provided Northern Soul with that wonderful record on Vault. This time Bobby teams up with Miles Grayson fabricating two proper tunes for the NS Turntable. Topside has for years now been considered a rare stomping trophy that has maybe suffered a little at the expense of it’s own rarity, as only the elite DJ’s ever seemed to owned a copy. Today I’m really dazzled by the flip, which is down a pace but carries equally class and draw to it’s big-brother “A” side. The mystery group show off their seamless harmonizing bolstered by a piano driving this stroller to greatness, i really do like this overlooked side. Two sides to chose from, both giving up exactly what the scene feeds upon, RARITY offering far too much quality for one disc. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 713.00 Othello Robertson So In Luv Fantastic Oakland, California Northern Soul from the desk of Eddie Foster & Dell Randle. A Northern Soul dancer that first saw the light of day on the mythical BABY LUV label - so rarely seen, that this Los Angeles variation is the only realistic way of capturing this stunning piece of Soul-Sister Bay Area Soul. This 1967 Era PROMO is in flawless near new condition, enjoying it original company sleeve and two perfect labels. Looks beautiful doesn’t it..but not as beautiful as Othello’s individualistic vocal style. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 251.00 Alex Brown I'm Not Responsible Monk Higgins during the 60s forged a huge reputation for the “Full-On Kitchen Sink” production through his “Special Agent” sessions. With outstanding recordings with Johnny Sayles, Mamie Galore etc. During the early seventies his long association with Alex Brown produced this by comparison “mellowed-down” soulful dancer, that has graced the turntables of discerning venues like “Soul Essence” “Just Soul” “The Orwell” etc. for years. Now rightly considered a Top-Drawer example of the Northern Soul crossover genre. This seldom seen PROMO copy has two flawless labels & vinyl to match. Click the sound-file and enjoy Monk Higgins’s studio skills guiding a Sister with the voice of an Angel. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 597.00
Jim G Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I know the Cavaliers is Rare but it look pretty beat up on JM web site video on you tube, £7000, I know is probably its value but I even if I had the money would I buy it ? Don't know. But if it completes someone's collection then good lucky to them
Pete S Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 These prices are just weird. That Jackie Edwards album was a 99p job that was sold in newsagents and the like and is not worth more than £25. But the nancy Ames stock copy is impossible on British and is worth two or three times more than it sold for, someone's got a real bargain there. 2

I got it from Maxx Kidd and sold it on for £1500 when I got my second copy in the late-ish 90s, in better condition Quite shocked at the price it reached Andy 1

boba Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Is that an accurate price for the Judy Street 45? just asking because I never ever see it for sale, but sometimes that just means that the copies are in the UK. the reason I'm asking is that my friend has a copy with a tight crack that plays fine and I'm having a hard time figuring out what to ask to sell for him.

Uptempo, awesome tight harmonies, messy backing and an harmonica break to die for. Never really caught on, but to my ears, one of the best.

Never really caught on, but to my ears, one of the best. Definitely! And extremely rare (with at least two of the very few copies known being cracked), and on a highly collectable label as well. Plus, as a bonus for the lucky owners, the flip 'Tighten Up' wasn't on the Kent CDs. Is that because there was either no master tape or playable vinyl? Ady/Andy ...? Edited June 20, 2013 by Seagrave
Liamgp Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) The Nancy Ames was very cheap. Someone did well there and is probably a little surprised at winning! Always feel that UK stuff is overlooked by many people as they only want US labels these days. Edited June 20, 2013 by ElGeePee
Guest in town Mikey Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I think the buyer got a great deal on the Othello Robinson. I'd be disappointed if I were the seller.
