Hi everyone

21st Generations - I Need Love/Hey James (Tri-City).

Looking for some info on this group and their other releases please.

I know this one also came out on Ultra-City.

Is this the same group that recorded on the Joy label as the 21st or the 21st Century?

Anyone got the group line-up or know about connections to another other groups please?

TIA for any info

Cheers

Richard

Got "Hey James" on Ultra-City a great underplayed/rated track.

This is circa 1970 don't know anything about them but 21st Century were formed in 1973 in Chicago then signed for Motown in 1977 and changed their name to 21st Creation.

Can't find any connection between the 2 , other than the Motown connection Choker Campbell, which might just be a coincidence.

21st Generation line up as follows:Regional Garland, Eddie Garland, James Cobbins and Wendell Counts.

The label was out of Saginaw Michigan. The song was recorded under Chocker Campbells supervision at the Chess Studios  in Chicago.

Regional later joined the Perfections recording "Girl You Better Hurry" along with Lee Edwards-Duncan, Dwayne Nickerson and Thomas White. This was recorded at the Tri-City studio in Saginaw.

That's your lot for now I'm off to finish my decorating.

Numbers-wise you would think Ultra-City because it is 316 and Tri-City is 318.

However, the numbering systems for the two labels often duplicate numbers so they are probably not even supposed to be synchronized. Therefore, 318 could have been first.

Ignoring the numbering system one might suggest Tri-City first as it's on a demo. Why put out a demo for a re-issue?

Then again. "Hey James" was the flipside both times.

Maybe the A-side matrix numbers give a clue?

As does Hunts Determination

It's a cover of the same tune, but Hunt's Determination Band has got a totally different backing track.
