Popular Post Mike Lofthouse Posted June 15, 2013 Popular Post Posted June 15, 2013 Too right, the north seems to get ignored by many promoters. I follow all kinds of music live Chalky but I have to travel for everything and everyone - Newcastle is the nearest and in fairness put on some great shows - but it is always a trip and and overnight stay - get a bit pissed of when people come on here criticizing about poorly attended gigs (like the last Lee Fields tour) when I support more than my fair share 4
Hammersoul Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Taj Mahal two nights later too - you lot are spoilt down there Wayne I think London gets more then it`s fair share Mike cos of the larger population, maybe the artists prefer it cos of it`s more well known, more to see etc. Plus there`s 3/4 airports to choose from. It is a shame cos i would imagine the North supporting these gigs better then us lot down here cos of the apathy/ everyone too busy/too much hassle to travel etc of which i`m guilty of myself sometimes. 1

Roburt Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 (edited) Bettye LaVette is also on at the Stamford Bridge club ........ https://underthebridge.co.uk/events/bettye-lavette/ I'm told that Bettye plans on doing a 90 minute show with approximately half the songs she will include in her set being from pre 2000. Roburt Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 I'm told that Bettye plans on doing a 90 minute show with approximately half the songs she will include in her set being from pre 2000. Bettye is also doing a show in Perth (Scotland) 2 days later (19th July). But the set with more of her old classics included is only for the London show, not any of the other dates on her current European tour.
Thfcliam Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 (edited) I take it this is his band called the expressions I am going to a festival near when i live this year called Secret garden party. It is not really my thing musically (they normally do have a couple of good acts though, alton eliis played there few years ago before he died, sposidly desmond dekker did before he died, martha and the vandellas did last year) but I am going as my girlfriend loves it. I have just seen on the line up Lee fields & the expressions are playing, get in there!! He looks very good. Edited July 4, 2013 by thfcliam
Chalky Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 I've seen countless acts and Lee Fields up is up there with some of the best I've seen, the best in recent years for sure. The Expressions are great as well, really tight. The clip in the first post is one I took at Leeds last year, there are a few more on my youtube page. Anyone who is into live acts should go and see Lee Fields. 1

Chalky Posted July 28, 2013 Author Posted July 28, 2013 Brilliant, absolutely brilliant at The Band in the Wall last night. The place was packed and HOT, damn hot. Great to see so many youngsters enjoying themselves to some quality soul music. 1
Guest Byrney Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Incredible performance. What a fantastic night and as Chalky says great to see young people getting down in their own way to soul music.
Glynthornhill Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Lee Fields reminded me of a mini version of James Brown - great showman gutsy vocal delivery and gut wrenching vocals - The Expressions a perfect tight knit group of musicians in their own right . All round best concert I have witnessed this year . 2
Thfcliam Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 I Saw him yesterday at SGP. Just Amazing. His voice is really soulful and his lyrics are so good you can feel the pain in his voice Best act I saw shame it went so fast.
Steve G Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 (edited) Really pleased that he is now selling out gigs here again.....and youngsters are enjoyinh his music! There is hope..... Edited July 29, 2013 by Steve G
Jason S Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 There's a venue up here that continually puts on amazing quality acts and other up and coming stuff (usually for free...god knows how!) Anybody find themselves around Newcastle check out this place. It's only a small venue so you're right i there with the band almost Wish Lee Fields could have been snagged for this place... https://www.hoochiecoochie.co.uk/
