Guest MissHongkongfuey Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Firstly, apologies if this subject has already been raised.... Could anybody shed some light on this for me at all please?? I went to buy a record from the US via Ebay and the price was $30 ( £19) with postage coming in at £9. When I went to checkout, it was insisting that I had to pay for this protection with my purchase adding another $17 to the total costs. Apparently, it covers import duties, and ebay and paypal buyer protection. Sorry, but I thought I already had that with any purchase??(Obviously not the customs charges) Even if I got hit with customs charges, I thought that threshold was £18/19 anyway?? I asked to cancel the sale ande explained to the seller my reason for doing so. I'm not prepared to pay for something that I already have and for something shouldn't really get hit with customs anyway. He agreed and understood, although he said that it was quite a task to opt out of the programme. He's since opted out completely, as he knows it will cripple his record sales. More charges just means even less purchases from the US for me. Anyone else come across this or uses this??
Guest MrC Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 (edited) Think there''s a whole other thread about this, and the increase in postal charges from the US somewhere. Here's one, there's a couple more too. Edited June 14, 2013 by MrC
Guest MissHongkongfuey Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Ahhhh !! No wonder my search returned no results....spelling programme instead of program! Off for a browse. Ta very much
Mr Smithy Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 $9 - I wish I could mail a 45 to UK for that. With EB discount its about $11.50, regular mail $12 & change. Global Programme ! EB haven't pushed me that way and as far as I know you have to actively sign up for it. I wouldn't go near it with a 20 ft pole. No one in their right mind would get EB & the Post office in cahoots while you sit there like a chump trying to find out what's going on and the buyer has to take out a 2nd mortgage.
