Benji Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 If it's really the Mello Souls, that would be the best record JM auctioned in the last 10 years ever. I predict well over 10K. 2
Guest Bearsy Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 15k even more if mint and I will defo be having a bid or 2 on it :-)
Markw Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 I know Kenny Burrell paid Shifty £12K for it over 10 years ago now.
Popular Post Philb Posted June 11, 2013 Popular Post Posted June 11, 2013 15k even more if mint and I will defo be having a bid or 2 on it :-) I don't like it myself, well I'll rephrase that I wouldn't spend that amount of money on it if it was a couple of hundred yes but honestly its not that great the intro is fantastic but once they start singing they are all over the place and then it seems they all lose interest three quarters of the way through. Only my opinion though. 7
Dave Pinch Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 more mello souls than inspirations on breakthru now isnt there......12k i reckon for this one....fabulous record
Spacehopper Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 maybe not the best record but one of the rarest ...10-15k dean
Chalky Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 The scan has been posted in the rare soul sales group on Facebook
Chalky Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 more mello souls than inspirations on breakthru now isnt there......12k i reckon for this one....fabulous record How many inspirations are there? 4 copies!
Ted Massey Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 How many inspirations are there? 4 copies! Mick Smith and I have one
John Parker Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Between Larry and Frank? ... most probably. However, let's not forget there were other recent items in-between those two as well: Eddie Parker - £8.2K+ Counts - £8.5K+ Prophets - £9.9K+ All very rare and very good records (and, perhaps not surprisingly, the last three are all now residing in Japan I believe). But personally I would rather have any of those five ahead of the Mello Souls. It might well exceed the price for the Prophets; but then again, travesties happen all the time. Give me One Gold Piece any day of the week. We Can Make It is not for me though, and as the Mello Souls might say, 'I Got My Pride' ... And wouldn't be surprised if the Mello Souls ends up making an Eastwards journey
Trev Thomas Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 And wouldn't be surprised if the Mello Souls ends up making an Eastwards journey eastwards as in east coast u.k......beverley perhaps ?????
Guest Seagrave Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 And wouldn't be surprised if the Mello Souls ends up making an Eastwards journey Good point John. Or it could even go back to the USA (big money collectors there too). And that has actually cheered me up! The prospect of at least one copy of this banal, messy, contrived record being sent a few thousand miles away, to lie undisturbed in a private collection, is a rather satisfying thought. I'm feeling more mellow already ... 1
Dave Pinch Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Mick Smith and I have one tim brown still got his.....i think there`s 1 more but cant think for my life who`s got it

John Parker Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 eastwards as in east coast u.k......beverley perhaps ????? Dont know about that Trev...was it Machiavelli who said everything has its price
Ezzie Brown Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 like the sharing idea of mello souls ...... .......how much for a part share of the hole in the middle???? .......go well with my scratched cracked collection of never wassers and never will be tunes .........ez
Steve Ss Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Hopefully Bradford cheers Phil. Is that my belated birthday pressie from you?

Chalky Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Has anybody got any idea of whose copy it is for sale, or is this kind of info kept private...dont want to upset anyone, just wondered thats all.......Rob Apparently it was picked up at a record fair in the US for $20! Almost mint as well.
Lionelonthevinyl Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Wow! Thank you for answering my question.....not a bad mark up so far, and what it finishes at god only knows!....Rob
Premium Stuff Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Apparently it was picked up at a record fair in the US for $20! Almost mint as well. Ironic the seller must have been one of the few that hadn't read Manship's Guide 2
Jumpinjoan Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 No disrespect but how anyone can compare the Mello Souls to the Inspirations, let alone say it is inferior is beyond me What a record!
Pete S Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 No disrespect but how anyone can compare the Mello Souls to the Inspirations, let alone say it is inferior is beyond me What a record! Which one?
Manfromsoul45s Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Apparently it was picked up at a record fair in the US for $20! Almost mint as well. $20!! that was a bit expensive..Maybe inflation 2
Jumpinjoan Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Which one? Mello Souls Pete. I know you won't agree
Steve G Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 (edited) A non soul bod found it.....and then realised what he had found.........There's gold in them thar rekkids kiddo! Edited June 12, 2013 by Steve G 2

Premium Stuff Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I like both of them...but if I had to choose it would be Inspirations. Me too
Popular Post Louise Posted June 12, 2013 Popular Post Posted June 12, 2013 Apparently it was picked up at a record fair in the US for $20! Almost mint as well. I hope the $20 seller isn't a vindictive assault rifle owing redneck with a facebook account or things could turn very interesting Dave 4
Cover-up Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I don't like it myself, well I'll rephrase that I wouldn't spend that amount of money on it if it was a couple of hundred yes but honestly its not that great the intro is fantastic but once they start singing they are all over the place and then it seems they all lose interest three quarters of the way through. Only my opinion though. Surely it's impossible to equate musical content and financial value? Can you ever really listen to a piece of music and think, oh, that's a two hundred quid record. Anything over a fiver is purely down to a complex algorithim based on the quadruple factors of demand, quality, condition and rarity. Obviously this one ticks all four boxes. 1
Popular Post SLAMMINSOUL Posted June 12, 2013 Popular Post Posted June 12, 2013 (edited) Just refreshed my memory n had a listen. Please no offense meant but i think whoever pays more than $20 for this is mad! There are thousands n thousands of records better than this for a fiver never mind $20. U could buy yourself an incredible collection for what this will sell at and the collection would be all the better for not having it in it. The rarity far out ways its quality. Average at best but somebody will buy it because they can. Ignorance is bliss, i'm gonna listen to anything by Jackie Wilson now. My ears hurt after that. Benji Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Even though I'm not logged in I can see the auction details on JM's site including the highest bidders ID/email (booboosoul...). Anyone else too?

I think the original finder is on a piece of the action.....maybe another middle man or broker involved (local record dealer / intermediary), but I am sure the finder of this isn't going to come out of this with $20 less commission
Md Records Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Maybe the Triads are involved, or a Columbian drugs cartel, or international terrorists - The possibilities are endless - This is gripping stuff!! Des 2
Bazm Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 How many inspirations are there? 4 copies! Ginger Taylor has/had one
Corbett80 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 The stuff record collecting dreams are made of. Near mint too!!! Is anyone else as aroused by this as I am???
Pete S Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 The stuff record collecting dreams are made of. Near mint too!!! Is anyone else as aroused by this as I am??? Sadly nothing about records excites me anymore. Maybe if I came across a boxfull of UK demos. But I barely lifted an eyebrow to this one or any other auctions, apart from the results. 1
MrsWoodsrules Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 (edited) Got to say the more I hear Mello Souls (via youtube), it grows and grows on me, for me it's a real monster tune and has everything, intro, beat, soul, sax break, what more could you want? I bet if i heard it played out, blastin though speakers in a 'euphoric' state, then this tune would really send me to that special place. Hope I get that lottery up this weekend, cos I'd Buy It Now with an offer JM wouldn't refuse if I did........chance per dream. Doesn't someone called Mick H own a copy of this too? Edited June 13, 2013 by MrsWoodsrules 2
Soulman Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 What if, and this really is a what if, all of a sudden it got booted on a look-a-likey label. Obviously the original on offer would still be a trophy item but with a flood of boots getting played up and down the country by would be dj's, how much would it affect interest/price I wonder. Steve
MrsWoodsrules Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Looks like theres already a boot knocking about.
