Is this a contender for the longest artists name printed on a record label ?

No soul connection on this record (move to freebasing if necessary), but I thought I'd share it anyway.

If you can't see the picture, the artist is ...

"The Walham Green East Wapping, Carpet Cleaning Rodent And Boggit Exterminating Association"

Anyone think of something that can beat this?

Cheers

Dunno, but I think the longest title ever was a Rod Stewart & the Faces Song:

"You Can Make Me Dance Sing Or Anything (Even Take The Dog For A Walk, Mend A Fuse, Fold Away The Ironing Board, Or Any Other Domestic Shortcomings)"

Even I wasn't close apparently, longest song title ever is actually (according to Listology)

  1. "Regretting What I Said to You When You Called Me 11:00 On a Friday Morning to Tell Me that at 1:00 Friday Afternoon You're Gonna Leave Your Office, Go Downstairs, Hail a Cab to Go Out to the Airport to Catch a Plane to Go Skiing in the Alps for Two Weeks, Not that I Wanted to Go With You, I Wasn't Able to Leave Town, I'm Not a Very Good Skier, I Couldn't Expect You to Pay My Way, But After Going Out With You for Three Years I Don't Like Surprises" - Christine Lavin

No probs MrC, just thought that where I said "Longest Artist Name" in the Title and "Is this a contender for the longest artists name printed on a record label ?" as the opening post, I sort of thought it was obvious :)

Some of those titles are good tthough

There is a 70,s release on Green PIR the Philly label. Think it mentions about 6/8 artists on said label. Cant for the life of me remember what it is called think Lou Rawls is on there for 1. Sort of Feed the world type thing.

How are you measuring longest?

Is it most characters in the artist name?

Or is it longest total length in millimetres - whereby a really long artist name could still lose if they foolishly used a really small font?

If we don't have clear rules we will not know who has won!

I suppose by the amount of characters.

I haven't added them up but it think the Philly All Stars featuring eveyone and my mom is probably in the lead. Can't remember the details of the Hitsville Appreciation Society, but that could be up there too.

I (obviously) don't have the original but I do have the copy that came with "Hype And Soul" The A side label credits- "Margaret Phelps, Berry Gordy Jr., Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Marvelettes, The Temptations". The B side label credits-"Martha & The Vandellas, The Contours, Eddie Holland, Kim Weston The Supremes" So my question is do the credits have to be on one label or can they be on two separate sides?

Posted (edited)

Just on one side I think - so that would be ....

"Margaret Phelps, Berry Gordy, Jr. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Marvelettes, The Temptations."

This is the leader at the moment with (I think) 110 characters, not counting spaces.

Great stuff

Hello Mr. Cane,

I met "Archie Drell" at a gig in Newcastle in 1977 and, believe it or not, they were introduced as: "Archie Bell & The Drells and The Bell System Dance Band".

Have I won a fabulous prize ?

Here's a question... is it possible for an artist to have a name which is both long and short at the same time ?

Mr. Lofthouse probably thinks he's in charge of this topic just because his name is longer than mine.

And for those who know him as Lofty, I suppose his name is also taller than mine.

He wins on two counts.

Mike used the word "pedantic" because he thinks we don't know what it means.

But we both know he's just being facetious.

:g:

P.S.  The question in post #27 is still unanswered so a fabulous prize awaits a lucky winner...

When I read the opening post in this thread this was the first record I immediately thought of.

Must admit I was feeling pretty smug about myself thinking nice one derek.

But at the time I didn't have chance to respond.

As soon as I get a minute and I remember I'll tag on my reply.....

Well I'm here now and finds out Mister Cane beat me too it last night.

And for those that don't know it - phew! Take a seat you'll need to sit down.

Definitely in my all time top 500.

Seem to think he (or they) had another release on the label but sadly it wasn't up to much.

derek

Including spaces the group name numbered 51. JD moves into second place.
