Thought the thread was about where next musically anyway not where's it been.

Was it? :D

Ok, in short - no where.........Meaning it doesn't need to 'go anywhere' - For example, read the latest 'really' long record sales list - How many of those titles do you actually know?......There are still thousands of 'good soul' records waiting to be played at our venues

All the best,

Totally know what you mean Len, and I don't pretend to know all the stuff on the lists,  far from it, nor am I suggesting that the same certain few records should get played over and over again, just trying to explain my own M's personality.

I'm learning about loads of new, to me that is, sounds all the time on here and agree that lots of worthy records don't get played out but I also think its wrong to say (or rather assume if you don't go to their events), that all dj's at what are considered as the more traditional events don't deviate from the main staples, some do (a certain Mr Westhead to name but one) and they deserve some credit from some of the nay sayers.

Pete Smith's done 7 or 8 podcasts of oldies on here recently with loads of tracks that would ram the dance floors that I stumble about on and yet which are brand new to my ears.

I blame the promoters more than the D.J's - It is their job to 'guide' an event. Some are just settling for the lazy 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' angle, due to numbers through the door - Their choice of course, but I don't like it.

When I say 'going no where' - That is as far as I'm concerned, and that goes for any input I have on events I help to run - My aim is to keep it soulful and as interesting as I possibly can (within that), which influences the choices I make with ref D.J's I use (Obviously)

All the best,

They aren't promoters though the majority Len are they. They are simply fulfilling a need to DJ with the records they have spent the kids inheritance on. They don't care if just one man and his dog turns up, they have no thought for the bigger picture (the scene) just their own selfish requirements.

Surely, numbers throuiigh the door are important to anyone who puts on a night? No one does it to lose money do they?

I'm afraid so......now I'm slipping back into my 'Mourning for The Scene' :( - B*gger, we need to stop it! :excl: ........'On the positive' - The Scene is developing in places, with great small clubs popping up here and there, that stand out because they are run by people that do it because they love it (the music).....and were more than likely around 'back in the day' (1990's!!!)

Yes, obviously (Well actually, to some it don't!).....My point is, some have no real interest in keeping it fresh / 'providing a quality product' (if you like), as long as people keep turning up and paying their money.

There is a hell of a difference to a club run by someone that is in it for the right reasons - It feeds right through the event (To me anyway)

All the best,

......Sorry, if it's gone 'off topic' (again) does it really matter at times?.....

Well that was an interesting thread guyz, I’m gonna ‘sign off’ by saying - ‘Northern Soul’ is archaic now, and I’m sure it will develop in its own way into something pretty different in the long run.

…….If I see a Ford Capri drive past me nowadays, I think to myself  “Arrrr, that’s pretty cool”…..If I see an old Classic Car drive past, I think “Blimey” with a smile on my face.

Keep enjoying what ya do - None of us are experts, so let’s ‘allow’ ourselves to be entertained by whoever is sharing their records with us - We’re supposed to be having fun!

Just a loose linkage of broadly black music sub genres and clubs playing assorted music from 1955 to 2013 - everything from oldies, newies, lesser playeds, funk, crossover, mid tempo, old moddun, new moddun, great funk, crap funk.... etc etc....

God, that sounds like the best niter I have ever been to!

If it's good it's good?
