just talking about Small Soul venues, & got talking about The General Pickton in Kings Cross, used to be in their function room which was like someones Front Room, not that big at all but always a very good night I think Danny Everard ran it when he used to live with Sean McKluskey....never really got more than about 20 people in there but they were the right 20....Always a good night....

....Anyone here used to go ???? or did you have a similar do ????

I went to most of them, and the one 'round the corner from it where Ion & myself did a couple of do's

t

I couldn't get the time off work & didn't have any money. A work colleague (non-soulie) went along, had a whale of a time & won a record in the raffle. I was a tad jealous.I always think of those days whenever I cycle past the Gen Picton pub, how sad am I?. It's still there, but changed its name now

I was a regular at that one. I remember Ion's birthday there, someone bought him a 'top shelf' all the spirits along the top in one glass!!!

He through up within minutes and then carried on dancing, happy days thumbsup.gif

Also Jon, just found all my membership cards from RSG, Sensible soul,Cass club,Peterborough and a funny one ARSE ( Aylesbury Rare Soul Experience)

Remember it well John, its presence was often graced by the now famous Derek(Chico)Riches,The Soul Shrews,Dave Warr et al.Dont think Danny lived with Sean, same road though. There was also the Spreadeagle(a bit bigger)and the Royal Oak with Dr.Bob in London Bridge wasnt that big and todays Filthy Mcnastys isnt exactly a palace......Happy No Worries Off Our Faces Days. thumbsup.gif:lol::lol::ohmy:

Hi Curno,

It was really great to see you as well. I was Djing at Monumental last night and Bob from kilburn turned up, first time I've seen him for ages. The photo of me on the sight is my 18th birthday in '82. Love the Jam picture on the union jack, with Paul Weller looking directly into our Khazi. My mum served him a few months ago and told him thumbsup.gif and then got his autograph for me :lol:

Blimey you must have a big front room Jon!!

It was a small function room above a pub but must have held 75 or so if I remember rightly.

Danny Everard ran the night every Thursday from Sept 86 'till Dec 86 I DJed with Danny + guest's like Ady, Brian Rae, Pete Myles, Ivor Jones and other's.

In fact we've just got home after a week in England and just read the thread, checking our post there's an envelope from our old mate Dave Warr containing a darn good comp' CD and a few old flyer's for the "Picton"! Spooky or what?

One flyer say's "coming soon Darge,Buck,Coombes,Evison,Bicknell+more"

Hopefully Dave can scan a few flyer's 'an put 'em up

Think Danny fell out with the Picton's landlord or there was a change of management so the night"s ended, shame 'cos they were a good laugh and weekly

Danny organised a Xmas special @ The George near the Angel and then I think started running Thursday's @ The Spread Eagle(Terry Jones) in Shoredich and doing his Soul Mission bit with Sean.

Haven't read all this thread but seem to remember Ken was in attendance most week's.

Thank's for starting the thread brought back some happy memories.

P.S. Why isn't Danny"The mayor of Cornwall"Everard on 'ere?
