Just been in the loft to dig out my Blues and Soul and Black Music mags (from 72-77) and found three copies of the Owl's Effort, issues 4,5 and 6.

They date from '89 and I forgot I owned them. How many were there? Oh. and are they worth much?!

They are a good read and will be my bedtiime reading over the next few days..

They were written by the nutty Richard Domar, he's still got copies to sell these days...I think  but issue one is sold out, basically a good read but for gawds sake don't phone him and ask him about them....the phone conversation will probably go something like this...

ring ring......Wot

hi is that Richard Domar?

yes

do you still have any of you're mags left?

yes

how much?

silence

are you still there?

yes

well?

well wot!,

how much for the mags?

it tells you in the catalogue

but I don't have one

silence

more silence

so you won't tell me how much then?

silence

have you got the telly on in the background?

yes...seven of them

can you phone back in 10 minutes when this race if finished?

erm...yeah ok

So I did'nt phone him back, but I did send for his catalogue and bought records from him but the phone conversation we had is rather unprintable, welcome to the strange world of Richard Domar, he's worth a thread on his own!

So lets hear YOUR stories!

I wrote an article for that magazine, the biggest article anyone has ever written for any magazine I should think (link to it below)

https://www.raresoul.co.uk/blackmusic.html

anyway like I said, it must have been about 14 pages long.

I didn't even get a free copy of the mag sent to me

n.b. most have you have probably read that article anyway but the spelling errors were caused by the scanning software

OK that may be the case now Mark but I can assure you I would have punched his lights out had he been standing next to me on several occasions, what an obnoxious man he was/is, his idea of selling over the phone was not acceptable to me, i'm the customer not something he stood in and he complained bitterly to me that he was'nt selling any records  no wonder with that attitude, and that was only a few years ago, such a negative man in all aspects of life in general too, thank goodness I bought a computer!

one thing that did happen i bought a record from him once and it got lost in the post and i went mad at him but six to eight weeks later it turned up and he posted it on again for me...

As I've said in a previous post about RD on here, I was given the pleasure of being invited down to his house one Sat afternoon - so drove all the way down from Stockport - showed me all his stuff on shelves in a room upsatirs - dont remember all the tellys though. Got some great stuff off him too - anything in demand he was expensive but other stuff was cheap as chips.
