Guest MBarrett
Sooty, you'll see Emabassy's everywhere because this was Woolworth's own label, Like Sooty I had no idea that Woollie's had their own record label early 60's . I started buying records Christmas 1964 when it sounds like Embassy was on its way out. But I can't remember Woolie's selling records at all in the mid-1960's. We had a big Woolworths in our town and I had to go past it to get to the first record shop. I can't remember even looking in there let alone buying anything. First recollection I have is them having those Top of the Pops LP's later on in the 60's. But they were considered a joke and no one I knew would have been seen dead with one. Guest penny
Sooty, you'll see Emabassy's everywhere because this was Woolworth's own label, they covered every top 10 hit from the late 50's up until around 1965 I think. Some people actually collect full runs of these! A better one is paul rich's version of 'hit the road jack', although still fairly superfluous. George G
some of the most famous Masqueraders - I don't want nobody to lead me on / Paul revere and the raiders I don't get this, I can't recall a PR&R recording of this song unless it's an LP cut that I forgot about. Besides, they had their first mild hit record in 1961, 6 years before the Masqueraders record. By late 1965 they were stars. Their breakthrough hit "Just Like Me" was written and recorded first by the Wilde Knights, a band from the Longview, WA area. Link to comment Social source share

George G
didn't someone make this a rock hit and if so, did i get it wrong and who was it? Huh, nothing that comes to mind. It sounds a little like "Nobody" by Three Dog Night but they are definitely different songs. I can be sure that Paul Revere and Raiders didn't have a hit with it. They did some remakes/covers of R&B songs but nothing that was a big hit. Their huge hit "Indian Reservation" was a remake of a record by x-Sorrows member Don Fardon (but written by John Loudermilk).
