Middleman Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Slightly off topic I know but I too have fond memories of Bub, one of those characters you never forget, remember being on many a train journey with him to cleethorpes (and I think Wigan), proper funny. Probably an old one but remember him interupting his set (i forget where) saying "just heard a Riker lorry has overturned on motorway, the road will be blocked for a few hours" Mid 3
Patto Posted May 24, 2013 Author Posted May 24, 2013 Both parts of Bub at the Winding Wheel now on Mixcloud. I love the bit where the lights come on and he says I bet you all thought it was the squad or words to that effect. https://www.mixcloud.com/Chalkster/the-mighty-bub-at-the-winding-wheel-august-14th-1987-part-2/ Thanks for that Chalky loved every minute of it
Simsy Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Thanks for that Chalky loved every minute of it Yep I'll second that Chalkster. Been a good morning this morning and hearing the Mighty Bub (R.I.P) spin a few oldies was just the ticket!
Harry Crosby Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Fantastic stuff, was listening to the cd Chalky sent me only last week. Those bank holiday weekends in Scarborough were special days indeed, laughed all weekend, Bub had everyone hanging off his words in the Pickwick and the Salisbury. Great days indeed. R.I.P BIG MAN 1
Sean Hampsey Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Someone sent me this old pic recently, with Bub in his Mobster attire. A bit of a rogues gallery here (and long before political correctness was deemed important). Left to Right; The 'Mighty' Bub - Johnny Bruce - John Benson - Sean Hampsey - Poke - Alan Senior We did wear some funny clobber back in the day! Sean 3
Soulwolf Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 From what I can remember back in 1977 Cleethorpes Sunday all dayers Chaiman Of The Board Give Me Just A Little More Time was a big spin of Bub's together with Van Morrison Domino. The floor was packed.
Ian Dewhirst Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 My abiding memory of Bub was when he drank the slops out of a metal bucket at the end of a night at the Central. Believe me, that didn't look like a particularly pleasant experience but Bub relished it. That's one of the things I liked about him. If he wanted to do something, he'd just go ahead and do it LOL. I like that kind of spirit. He sure packed a lot in with a relatively short time on earth. His spirit sure lives on though doesn't it? Ian D
Guest Dave Turner Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 bub played it in the memory of mick cook who died on a coach trip going to Cleethorpes allnighter Poke, Me & Cooky at Cleggy Winter Gardens
