Eddie Billups on Helpp fetched £375 on John Manship's auction and just finished on Ebay at £174 [Mint minus].

How come? Cheapskates on Ebay? Im sure this has happened with other titles too. Are buyers too lazy to look around?

Can the Ebay winning bidder now turn around and make a nice £201 profit.

I don't really understand. Anyone enlighten me beyond it's worth what somebody pays cos I don't think that explains what's going on.

There was / is a thread on here during the week between xmas and NY that covered your question. Perhaps a mod could point it out, can't fint now?

Surley to prove a point you would have to have the same title in almost exactly the same condition on both auctions at the same point in time to asertain if there was a 'significant' diference in the two auction's 'processes'?

Wait up there,Simon, Im not inferring anything about auction processes. Im just wondering why there's these wild fluctuations in prices despite Price Guides etc.

Dave's explanation is plausible. Is it more money than sense syndrome?

Possibly the price guide is wrong

AND THAT SWINGS BOTH WAYS.(UNLIKE ME) UNDER AND OVER VALUED ON SOME ITEMS COMPARED TO THE BROWN GUIDE TOO SO EVEN THE DEALERS CANT AGREE ON CERTAIN THINGS

No disrespect to the Manship himself as he is a nice guy but

his prices are off the mark compared to market /

on the scene value.i.e. (YOU OR i TRING TO SELL THEM)

JOHN ALWAYS GETS MORE FOR HIS AUCTION ITEMS

(AND BEST OF LUCK TO HIM)

THAN WE SEE THEM GOING FOR ON A REGULAR BASIS IN PRIVATE SALES OR ON THE EBAY..

IF YOU LIST A 100 POUND RECORD FOR 75 IT SELLS

IF YOU LET JM AUCTION IT FOR YOU YOU GET £130..

HE SEEMS TO HAVE THE PEOPLE WHO WILL PAY THE TOP DOLLAR

AS TO THE QUICK £201 PROFIT

I DOUBT IT..IT WOULD HAVE TO BE SENT TO JOHN AND AUCTIONED AGAIN IF YOU WANT THAT SORT OF PRICE

IMO

ALSO JOHNS PRICES IN HIS BOOK ARE ONLY GUIDES NOT GOSPEL.

HE MAY LIST IT IN THE BOOK WORTH 300 BUT IF HE HAD ONE

I DOUBT HE WOULD LET IT GO FOR THAT PRICE WHEN HE CAN AUCTION IT AND MAKE 400..

SO MORE MONEY THAN SNSE IT IS..I KNOW IM ONE OF THE SILLY BUGGERS

Probably, once someone see a "£5" record consistantly selling now for £50, they presume that's par for the course nowadays

I wasn’t inferring that you were Rod, although that thread at xmas certainly did. One of the main points that came from it was that some people preferred to pay more and buy of JM because they trusted him and get their money back if there was a problem.

Personally, I don’t buy anything of ebay now because I’m tired of getting totally fcuked records that you and Dave left there 20 odd years ago. Likewise, not buying of John because I’m too old to be able to raise the vast sums needed, to by selling my arse!
